Chapter 7: Wolves

Max's point of view

The waterfall is coming nearer and we will be there and a couple of days since the weather is so terrible. It is pouring rain everyday and the winds

are coming in 30 miles an hour.

My feet are sore and muddy from the persistent walking. We are walking in a huddle to keep warm. When I hear a loud BOOM that signals the death of yet another contestant. Already three canons have gone off. It is too cold to survive by yourself. That is why we all walk huddled together in a close bundle. Our stuff is under the raincoats so it is not completely soaked when we take it out.

The only thing worse then walking is setting the tent up and sleeping.

I have nightmares well sleeping about the monsters in round one, the dead contestants, the supposed haunted forest, it all comes to me when I am sleeping. I can't stop them from coming. I even sweat when I am sleeping despite the freezing weather.

If the emeralds aren't at the waterfalls I don't think that any of us will be alive. We are all trusting Liam with our lives.

As we trudge on the mud starts to cling to my feet. The only good part about this is that it means that the rain as stopped. Even though the rain had stopped the winds hadn't. So it was still very cold.

Katie's point of view

Ugh I hate the rain. I hate the cold. And I hate the mud. The only thing that made me not just stop and sit down at 11:00 was that the rain stopped. Thank God.

As we huddle close together a cannon makes me jump. It is the 4th cannon this round. Already three contestants had died. Unlike last round, even if three teams die there will still be 3 teams elimenated. As they do every year they change the rules so that there are three winners. I have no idea why they do this but it's probably because the government makes them change it as a safety rule. Which is weird because people already die in this game.

I feel like something is fishy about this game since they have had both challenges in places the rebels fought, both the stones so far have been rebel symbols, and the whole 3 winner thing. Something is not right, my mind is screaming. But my brain is saying, your just being superstitious. I side with my brain and keep my thoughts to myself.

I am so busy in my thoughts I don't realize that we are setting up camp. I don't even help set it up I just climb in the tent and fall asleep right as my head it's the uncomfortable sleeping bag.

I sleep like a baby the whole night. That is until I hear growling and snarling outside the tent. I wake Max up and we both start to the door. When we peer out we don't see other contestant but big grey wolves. They have dark sinister eyes that glow in the darkness and teeth that are each about a foot long. These are no normal wolves. They are wolves from old legends. These are not the silver back wolves these are the gold back wolves. These are the leaders of the most dangerous pack of animals in this whole forest. No not forest whole world. These wolves come from the myths of old fisherman. And the few survivors of victims of the wolves. About how they can wipe out an entire population in less than an hour. These wolves were thought to be immortal. The only way they could die was in battle. There were 17 in the beginning and there was going to be 17 in the end. Of course other vicious wolves joined the pack but there was only 17 golden back wolves. If one of them ever died (not likely) then the 18th most feared wolf would become a golden back.

These wolves were about to be my prey I think to myself. I slip back in the tent and wake up Sarah and Liam. We have 4 weapons the axe, two sharp spears or walking sticks,

and one bow and arrow (crafted by me and Max in our free time). It is not much saying that some fought the wolves with swords and armor to seek glory and still didn't even put a fight.
