"Shall I continue?"
"Go ahead. My ears are yours."
So... Let's think now. Second grade? Actually that was fine. Third grade?
Third grade.

"Hey kids! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!"
I was wearing my new and favorite vest. I loved it. It was puffy, and it was purple and gray. It was really comfy and perfect for the chilly weather outside.
I went to go unzip the zipper, but someone started talking.
"Ha you're vest makes you look really fat. You look like a marshmallow."
I would've never guessed who would say that. That girl was my best friend. We would go over each other's houses all the time. I couldn't believe she said that.
The class laughed as I took my vest off, and my face reddened with tears starting to form.

It was recess time.
"Ok kids, it's required that if you brought a jacket then you have to wear it... Krystal, where's yours?"
I came out from hiding behind the kid in front of me.
"I don't have one."
"Really? It's rather cold outside, but ok."
And that day I spent outside, cold and shivering without anything but a thin, long-sleeved shirt on and some jogging pants.
That was the last day I ever wore that vest.
That was the last day that girl ever really spoke to me.
And that was the last day I had cared much about anything.
Later that month bothered me mostly because one of her friends was wearing the same vest I had.
And not one thing was said about her.
