Chapter 29: Ground Breaking

(Reader's P.O.V.)

Seeing as if they can't save Addison, Thor grabs Tony and Steve, rushing out of a glass window with Clint, Natasha, and Bruce behind them. The sound of Addison's sonic screams has all of the glass from every windows in the compound flying everywhere. The Avengers all fall to the ground, hitting hard into the cold snow. The building begins to shake uncontrollably, the ground quaking like an earthquake. The Avengers all run as far from the compound as they can, finding it gets easier as they get farther and farther away from the compound. When the Avengers reach the hovercraft, the compound explodes. Large bits of bricks and concrete fall from the sky like hail. Tony screams and tries to rush out of the hovercraft but Thor grabs him and throws him to the ground putting his hammer down on his chest so he won't be able to move. The Ironman helmet builds down into the suit, revealing Tony's head. Tears fall down his cheeks
The worlds mightiest hero's all stop for a moment and take a moment of silence. Addison's dead. Steve falls onto his bottom and puts a hand to his face, tears fall down his cheeks. Thor leans back against the wall with Clint, both taking heavy breaths in. Taking in the tragic loss of their young friend. Natasha clears her throat and walks back to the pilot seat, not wanting to show her emotions to anyone. Angered, Bruce runs out of the hovercraft, turning into the hulk. He runs towards the destroyed compound. The only sound that can be heard is Tony's loud sobs.

It's been 45 minutes since the Hulk left. Since Addison died. Tony sits in a corner, hyperventilating. As he rocks back and forth, as every minute passes the pain grows worse. Tony just lost his only child, his only daughter. The first good thing he created. He thinks back to what Nick Fury had said and this was indeed payback for all the wrong Tony's ever done. It's unbearable.
Steve sits in the pilot's seat, staring out onto the snowy field. Flashes of all the moments he had with Addison run through his mind. He can barely remember her face, her voice a distant whisper. Steve blames himself for just standing there. Addison was right in his grasp and all he done was stand there in shock. First, he loses Bucky, then he loses Peggy to time, and now Addison. Even though the aching in his chest is familiar, it still hurts just as bad as the first two times. He can't but wonder when it'll ever go away.
Natasha and Clint make small talk, trying to figure a way to get the Hulk back into Bruce. To calm him down. They made up a lullaby for him for when they need him to calm down, but it's dangerous right now. Thor leans on the side of the hovercraft door, taking in their loss. He looks out onto the rubble. Addison was right, she had to stop the bad guys but she also had to take herself with them.
Suddenly, a roaring sound echoes through the air. Thor turns and looks at Natasha and Clint, who look around at Tony and Steve. Tony is too busy hyperventilating to hear anything . Thor turns back to see Hulk running towards the hovercraft, his arm is held to his chest. He looks like he's bleeding. Thor rushes out of the hovercraft with the two assassins trailing behind him. Steve walks to the door and waits for them to return, so they can leave. Hulk stops in front of him, he leans down on one knee. Thor can see a mess of red hair being clung to Hulk's chest. Addison. Hulk sets the young girl down on the snowy ground. Thor rushes over to see how pale Addison is, bruises on her neck and huge slash on her neck. Her eyes closed. Natasha puts a hand over her mouth as she and Clint approach. Thor puts the back of his hand on her cheek, being gentle to the lifeless body. Addison's pale cheeks are still warm.
Clint walks over to check a pulse. He finds one.
"Oh, god. She's alive." He says in a small voice, "Get her back to the hovercraft! Get the defibrillator!"
Thor collects the ghostly girl in his arms, rushing back to the hovercraft.
Natasha turns to the Hulk, smiling up at him. She takes out her hand, being hesitant, as the Hulk puts his palm out for her. She touches it gently, slowly.
"Come on, big guy, the sun's getting real low." She says calmly, fear on her face.

Steve sees the young girl in Thor's arms, his heart pounding. Hulk found Addison's body. Thor rushes past Steve into the hovercraft with Clint behind him. Steve slides everything off of the small table that holds the maps and improvement layouts of Stark Tower. Thor sets Addison's unconscious body on the table, Tony breaks out of his state to see Addison lays on the table and his maps on the door. He rushes to her side, concerned. Steve brushes back the fallen hairs on Addison's face. Clint turns to Tony.
"Tony, we need you to use the defibrillator on the suit. Hurry!" Tony grabs his arms from this suit and and turns on the defibrillator, or electro shocks.
Tony puts it on Addison's chest, making her eyes fly open. The hovercraft suddenly shakes uncomfortably then it stops when she falls unconscious. Clint checks her pulse, nodding his head. Natasha and Bruce walk in. Bruce quickly juries to get something to cover himself.
"Pulse is back to normal." Clint smirks, "Mine, however, is jumping."
Natasha appears. "We need to get her to a hospital. Or solitary confinement."
Tony glares at her. He notices how Steve brushes Addison's hair back out of her face, the smile on his. It sets something off but he doesn't act upon it. Clint walks over tot he pilot seat and closes the hovercraft door. They rise up and fly off.
