Steve let me take the chair, leaving him to sit on the floor. In the pit of my stomach, there's butterflies. I try not to stare at him too long as we sit there in the hall together. Damn, if I wasn't so dangerous...
"So, has Tony found anything about me yet? I'm sure he's anxious to find out." I say, "He'd love to get rid of me."
"Don't say that, Tony cares more about you than you think." Steve says gently, "After you and Pepper had left, he called SHIELD headquarters so they wouldn't throw you into solitary confinement."
"Wow." I say sarcastically, bitter. "Doesn't he get the father of the year award?"
"You're a lot like him, you know." Steve says, making me nearly gag. "You inherited his sarcasm and his nose."
"Really? I thought I developed them on my own." I say sarcastically.
Steve smirks, shaking his head. "Kids"
Embarrassed by my own age, my cheeks blush pink.
"So, why the red, white, and blue Mr. America?" I change the subject quickly.
"It's actually Captain, not Mister." I cant but laugh at that reference, he gives me a confused look.
"Haven't you seen Pirates of the Caribbean? Captain Jack Sparrow?" I say, he continues to give me a confused look that is all too adorable. "God how old are you, Captain America?"
"21," He says "haven't aged a day since 1941."
I laugh at his joke, even though it's not that funny. He looks at me with his serious face, which is just as adorable as his confused face.
"Wait, you're not joking?" I say with a chuckle, playing along.
"No, I'm not actually." He says with a shy smile, looking down into his lap. "Haven't you read the news?"
"Well, it's kind of hard to hear what's going on in the world when you're strapped down to a metal table all day, everyday." That shuts him up, which I regret. "So, if you haven't aged a day since 1941, that would make you..."
"92," He says plainly.
"Well, you sure don't look old." I try not to smile at the thought, "Not all 92 year olds are that good into shape."
"Well, I wasn't always like this. I used to be small." Steve says, his eyes twinkling as he looks at me. "But they're just war stories."
"I'd love to hear it, I'm not going to bed anytime soon." I lie, feeling drained.
"I was just a kid from Brooklyn. I had signed up for the army in 1941, a German doctor had helped me get into the army. The U.S. Army had a secret base here in New York. Howard Stark, your grandfather, gave me this serum that made me stronger, faster, and bigger. The defect was that my metabolism is 4x faster than an average humans. I can never age." As I listen to Steve's story, I can't help but think back to when I had volunteered for that mad doctor.
I listened to the rest of Steve's story, enjoying his company. He talked about his dead friend named Bucky and this woman named Peggy. I have to admit, as Steve was sitting there talking about this woman, I hated the way his eyes lighted up as he talked about her. The way the corner of his lips formed a smile as he talked about her helping him getting to Bucky, it made me want to scream. I absolutely do not like this Peggy Carter chick, because she sounds like the perfect woman for him. And I couldn't help but feel guilty for being so jealous. Because she had him first and he's not even mine to claim. I was glad when he changed the subject from Peggy to how he had defeated this man called The Red Skull. He explained what happened after he crashed the plane.
"Wait-so let me get this straight now. You were a capsicle for 71 years?" It was him, he lightly pushes me as he laughs along with me.
I stand up, feeling exhausted. I open the door to my room, giving him one last glance.
"Good night, Soldier." I say tiredly, smiling at him one last time before I close the door. This has to be the best night of my life, so far.
And I swear as I closed the door, I thought I heard Steve say "Good night, Addy."
