Steve thought that Addison's little get together was nice. They all enjoyed themselves and Addison seemed happier than she's ever been. It made him happy for her, for Tony and Pepper. After they ate a mixed cultured meal, with pepperoni pizza and Italiano to Chinese and India based dishes, they all went upstairs for drinks. Steve knew he would be the odd one out. His metabolism is 4x as fast as the average human. He can't get drunk. He was worried when Tony let Addison sip a glass of champagne here and there, her body isn't healed enough for the alcohol. But he didn't say anything, because he knew he'd be calling Tony out as a bad father.
Steve sits at the bar, by himself, when Addison bounces up. She smiles at him.
"Hey Steve!" She says happily, "Couldn't help but notice you over here-not socializing."
"And I've noticed you bouncing around," He mimics her tone "Being a social butterfly."
Addison's green eyes light up at them mention of a butterfly.
"Tony fixed up my room," she sways back an forth, biting her lower lip. "You wanna see the improvements he made? It's pretty cool."
"I don-" Addison grabs Steve's wrist and he suddenly feels her strength, it almost matches his. She puckers out her lower lip.
"Please," her voice lowers to a whisper "I need to talk to you in private."
"Is that you that's talking? Or the alcohol?" Steve says cautiously, she lets go of him.
Addison stares at Steve in hurt. "I'm not Tony, Steve. Don't think for a second I'm going down that path."
A tear falls down her cheek, her lip quivering. Then Addison whips around and rushes to the stairs, making Pepper and Natasha notice. They both look at Steve with questioned eyes. Pepper says something to Natasha before walking over. Natasha joins Bruce by the couch, plopping down next to him. Tony immediately warns her about the furniture.
"Hey, Steve." Pepper says gently, "What did Addison say?"
"What do you mean?" Steve takes a shot of whiskey, his throat burning.
Pepper sighs, dropping her voice to a whisper. "She told me what happened between the two of you."
Steve looks up at her, in surprise. He looks over to Tony, whose talking with Bruce near the new lab Tony set up.
"Does he-" Steve says fearfully.
"No." Pepper's voice is sharp, she clears her throat. "No, Tony doesn't know. I promised Addison I wouldn't tell."
"Wonder how many she told," He glances over at Bruce and Natasha.
"Just me, Steve." Pepper assures him, "Listen, Addison is a young woman, she's not ready for a serious relationship Steve. But she does really care about you."
Steve smirks at this, his heart hurting. Then why had she put on an act?
"Personally, I think you'd make a cute couple." Pepper says with a smile, "So If There's any muscle in your body that cares for her the same, then go after her Steve. Go after her and don't lose her. She waited for you for days while you were on that mission."
Steve looks at the stairway, thinking of his every move. Should he go after Addison? Or should he stay there and let things go? Pepper smiles at him as he gets lost in thought.
"Go. I'll hold off Tony as long as I can." She says in a whisper, smiling.
Steve carefully walks to the stairs and hurries up them, after Addison. When he gets upstairs, he can see three doors. One is already cracked open. Bingo. Steve walks up to the room and knocks, peaking his head inside the lavender shaded bedroom. Addison sits on her new bed, crying. She looks up to see him standing there. She grabs a pillow and throws it at him, missing. She grabs another pillow and puts it over her face, laying down. Steve walks over to the side of her bed and sits down.
"Addison, you needed to talk with me?" Steve looks around her room to see pictures of butterflies and a cut out clipping of the Avengers in New York.
"Go away, I don't want to see you!" Her words are muffled but Steve can understand her.
"Addison, sit up straight and talk to me." Steve demands, making her jump.
The young, redheaded girl sits up and sets the pillow aside. She pulls her hair back out of her mascara streaked face. Steve makes her look at him.
"What did you want to tell me, Addy?" The nickname makes Addison tear up.
"You don't love me now that I've got a bunch of powers." She sniffs, "Cause I'm dangerous."
Steve's heart melts at the sound of her childish words. He pulls her into a hug, holding her head for support.
"Oh Addy, why are you so dramatic?" He smirks, his words soothing. "You're not dangerous. You're a girl."
"But you don't love me," Addison's voice drops to a whisper, trying not to break.
"Addison, you're not in love with me either." Steve says softly, "But I care about you. A lot. You make me happy."
"I missed you, Steve." Addison says, "I waited so long for you!"
Steve pulls her into his lap, knowing how Addison tries to change the subject quickly. He kisses her forehead, making her lean into him.
"I missed you too, Addy." He looks down at her, "But I'm here now and that's all that matters."
Addison wraps her arms around his neck, her lips crashing into his. He kisses her back, knowing how badly he wanted to for 3 weeks. Suddenly, Addison shifts herself so she's straddling Steve's waist. She leans down and kisses him tenderly.
"I do love you, Steve." Addison leans her forehead into Steve's, who kisses her nose. "Even if you think I don't."
"Addison, baby, I-"
Suddenly, the bedroom door hinges squeak. Both Addison and Steve's hearts begin to pound, their eyes staring into each other widely. They both turn and look to see Tony and Pepper standing in the doorway. Pepper has a big smile on her face. Tony, however has fiery eyes and tight fist. Addison begins to tremble under Steve's touch. A small quaking.
With his facing turning bright red, Tony shouts "ROGERS, WHAT THE F-"
