Chapter 32: I'm A Miracle, Remember?

(Reader's P.O.V.)

Steve and Natasha arrived at the new and improved Stark Tower by 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Steve was anxious to see Addison again. Because he felt something deep for her, even if it wasn't love. He decided to wear a denim shirt and dark jeans, something out of his comfort zone. To impress Addison. When the two agents step into the elevator, Steve notices right away that Tony has made the elevator bigger and better structured. The Billionaire Genius even added a few more floors to Stark Tower. Jarvis's voice rings throughout the elevator shaft.
"Hello, Captain Rogers and Agent Romanoff." Jarvis's voice says through the speakers in the elevator, "I will notify Mr. Stark and Miss Potts of your arrival."
They both nod their heads, knowing how Tony can be when everyone doesn't arrive at the same time. Early or late, Tony doesn't like it. Steve suddenly wonders if Addison is the same way. The metal elevator doors open to the top floor. Natasha and Steve's eyes go wide as they step onto the 11th floor. The living room is bigger, much more like a waiting room for patients. The bar has been moved to the other side of the room where the kitchen used to be, the kitchen must be on another floor.
"Hey, look who it is-" Steve and Natasha turn to see Tony and Pepper walking towards them, "Cap and Nat."
They stop and shake their hands, Pepper eyes Steve for a moment. "I'm so glad you've come. Addison has been talking about you ever since she got her voice back."
"That doesn't surprise me a bit," Clint says as he and Bruce walk out of the elevator "She just can't stay away from us."
"Hey, hey! Watch it, hot stuff. Addison is going to be taking it easy for a while." Tony says protectively, "No boyfriends allowed."
"Dad, I'm 21!" Addison exclaims from the stair way.
Steve's heart pounds at the sight of her. She wears a purple button up top and a black skirt with purple flower petals on them, her feet bare. Addison's hazel eyes lock with Steve's, a small smile on her voice. As she bounces down the steps, her curly hair bounces every which way. Bruce walks past Steve and Natasha, making his way to Addison. He hugs her tightly, making her giggle. Steve suddenly becomes slightly jealous of Bruce being so close to her. Clint is next to give her a hug, patting her back hard. She lets out a cough, making Tony go into protective-first-time-mother mode. He rushes over and pulls his daughter away from Clint, grabbing an inhaler in his blazer pocket. He looks at the others around him.
"Doctor said that since Addison strained her throat so bad, she may have a breathing problem for a while." Tony says, "But that doesn't stop her from talking."
"Well, how about you try going half a week without saying anything." She says to Tony, her eyes darting between him and Clint. "Then we'll see who can't stop talking."
Addison lets go of Tony and walks over to Natasha, giving her a huge hug. Natasha doesn't do hugs and it makes her blush red. For payback, she squeezes Addison back, making the young girl cough madly. Natasha lets go.
"Oops!" Natasha says half heartedly, "My bad."
"Yeah. It is." Steve catches Addison, she looks up at him with pink cheeks. "Hi, Steve."
"Hey, Addison." He says with blushing cheeks, "You're doing better, I can see."
She sees his new choice in clothing, going wide eyed.
"I can say the same with your wardrobe, Rogers." Her eyes flicker to his Captain America shield, "Mostly."
"Well, Addison has made a drastic life choice." Pepper announces, Tony nods her close to him. "She's reasoned with Tony into going to college-"
"-and major in Behavioral Analysis." Addison finishes, smiling sourly.
"Whoa," Natasha says in total surprise, which is foreign to her "and not mechanical engineering? Tony, are you sure she's your kid?"
"Sadly, yes." He says, Addison gives him a look.
"I'm kidding! I'm kidding, sweetheart." Tony puts his hands up in defense, actual fear in his eyes. "I'm proud that you want to make the world a better place."
"Just not by investing murderers and rapist, right?" Addison says sarcastically, "Relax dad. I'm a miracle, remember?"
Both Tony and Pepper let out a huge sigh, Pepper laughs as she smiles through Addison's arrogant, self-righteous attitude. She can tell from what little she has learned about Rachael that the young girl didn't get that attitude from her biological mother. It came from the man she loves. Mr. Tony Stark.
"Doctor Nathargio, Addison's Doctor, told us that it was a miracle that she even survived. Addison misinterpreted his words." Tony says with a laugh, "Making it go to her head."
"Can we eat now? I'm starving!" Addison quickly changed the subject, dragging Bruce to the elevator.
The team walks over and steps into the elevator. Addison and Bruce start chatting about the new science preserve down the street. Steve smirks as he listens to them from in front of them. But as happy as he is to see she's okay, his heart still hurts. Addison acts as if what they had, or could of had, never happened. Steve grits his teeth and stands up straighter. It never happened.
