Marina looked at her arms. They weren't glowing or transparent anymore. She smiled, then walked outside to a small hill. Where it was once a barren wasteland, grass and flowers were growing swiftly. She looked up into the sky. The sun was slightly lowered. Ian walked up to her. He strode to her side. They interlaced fingers.

"We did it."

"Yeah, we did."

Several Years later

Marina looked at Ian, smiling kindly.

"So, what did you want me to come here for?"

"I...Have something to give you."

"Really? What is it?"

Ian reached around in his pocket.

"Since it's Valentine's Day, I bought you something."

Ian put a pale box on the table. Marina opened it with care. Inside was a ring and a piece of paper.

"Aww, you shouldn't have!"

She examined the ring. The center was made up of multiple lavender-shaded gemstones inside of a gold frame. She glanced at the paper.

You probably know what I'm going to ask. Yes or no?

Marina smiled.

"Of course!"

Ian laughed with relief.

"Oh, good."

"Do you know what happened to Matt? I've stayed in touch with everyone from high school, but he never replies to phone messages anymore."

"I think he got engaged to one of the guys he rescued."

"That'll make two of us, then."

"I guess it does. Hope they're happy."

"Me too."

"...Do you want your necklace back?"

"You still have it? No, you can keep it."

"Okay."

Marina slipped the ring on her finger. She took Ian's hand and walked away.

"Did you ever figure out what Angelica was referring to?"

"I did."

"What was it?"

"It's the same reason that we've sacrificed so much for each other."

"Oh. Why didn't she just say "love" in the first place?"

"Honestly, she can be pretty cryptic."

"True. Let's go."
