"Irwieeeeeee!" Luke yelled, running into Ashton's hospital room the next day. I laughed as the other two ran into the room, mimicking Luke's voice, and tackled him. As Michael wapped his arms around him, Ashton looked over his friend's shoulder and gave me a thumbs up. I smiled and winked at him, before walking out to give them a minute.
When I stepped out into the hallway I noticed the mini drum set standing outside the door. I smiled at the boys thoughtfulness and waited for Ashton to give me some sort if sign to come back in.
Michael's voice suddenly approached the door, "We brought you a little something Ash."
"What is it?" He asked.
"It's a little something," Luke repeated, mischief coating his voice.
Michael opened the door and grabbed the mini drum kit and I immediately followed him back into the hospital room.
"Taadaaah!" He sang as he showed it to Ashton.
Ashton looked at me and I shook my head, claiming to not know anything about it... which was the truth.
"Did you guys really bring me a mini drum kit?" He asked, swinging his legs around to the edge of the bed and then standing up. Michael nodded as he placed it down on the ground. Ashton laughed and turned to face Luke who was smiling a cheeky grin. "You guys are the best," Ashton chuckled reaching to approach Luke. Unfortunately he ended up falling over the drum kit into his friends arms.
"Woah easy there buddy," Luke said, hugging him and helping him stand again.
"Sorry, I'm a bit unstable."
"It's okay, I was gonna hug you anyway," Luke laughed, to lighten Ashton's embarrassment. I smiled at the two of them, catching a glance of eye contact with Ash before he turned back to his friends.
"Well, shall we jam?"
"Can we?" Calum asked, looking out the window in the door, "Hospitals always seem so.... quiet."
Ashton shrugged, "What are they gonna do? Throw me out?"
"No, but they may throw us out," Michael reasoned. Ashton's face fell and he looked at his friends, trying to figure out a plan. I watched as the passion drained from his face as he tried to find a solution and just failed.
Suddenly, I thought of an idea. "Ash," I whispered, causing his head to turn in my direction. "Ask if you can jam outside," I whisper shouted so he could at least pretend he was paying attention to his friends. He nodded, his smile returning to his face and turned to press his assistance button.
In about five minutes, one of the small burnette nurses who always helped him, Amelia, was at the door. "What do you need Ashton?" She asked a smile on her face. The four of them looked up at her and then the three of them turned to Ashton.
"I was wondering," he started, suddenly getting shy, "I was wondering if I could maybe go outside into the courtyard with my friends so we can play a song."
Amelia's eyes moved to the drum set and then to the three other boys standing around Ashton's bed. She bit her lip and I could see the gears in her head turning. She looked behind her, down the hall and then glanced at her watch. "Let me just ask someone," she said, dismissing herself. Once she was gone I turned back to Ashton and gave him a thumbs up, hoping for the best.
A few minutes later, Amelia returned to the room. "I'm sorry to ruin everyone's afternoon, but the doctor suggested that Ashton stay inside until he shows a healthy progress."
The boys faces fell and Ashton wobbled back to his bed, obviously disappointed.
"I'm sorry," Amelia sighed, "But the doctor did say that we can arrange for your friends to stay the night with you, if that would somewhat make up for it?"
Ashton's smile returned a little bit and he nodded, "Boys?"
"Sounds good," Michael nodded.
"I'd love to," Calum agreed.
"Let me call my mom," Luke added, leaving the room.
The room burst into laughter. Luke's mom always had a tighter leash on him than the other boys and they loved to tease him for it.
"Alright, I'll call the hospitality unit and have cots delivered," Amelia smiled, leaving for good this time.
"I'm just gonna run home and grab some extra clothes and movies," Luke said, walking back into the room.
"And we're gonna go with him, right Calum?" Michael asked.
Calum shrugged, "Would be a good idea. We'll see you in a few mate."
Ashton hugged his friends good bye and watched them close the door. When they were well down the hall he turned to me, "Come here." He held his arms out and held the sheet up, allowing me to climb in next to him.
"Hey," I smiled once his arm was wrapped around me.
"Hi," he smirked, kissing my cheek.
I giggled and burried my face in his chest as his lips traveled around the back of my neck. Suddenly I felt his finger tips on my chin and allowed them to tilt my head upward.
"You gonna be okay tonight?"
I looked up at him, my eyebrow raised, "What do you mean?"
He shrugged, "The boys will be here, we won't be able to do anything."
"Oh," I realized, "Yeah." I hadn't even thought about that. "I guess I'll be good."
"You guess?"
"If you're happy, I'm happy," I smiled, pressing my lips to his. His mouth molded around mine and we moved in sync. His hands wrapped around my waist and he pulled me into his lap. My hands met around his neck and my arms rested on his shoulders. I gasped as he surprised me by bitting my lower lip and he moaned from the sensation.
"Ash," I breathed, pressing my lips even harder against his and his hands roamed my body. He pulled away, resting our foreheads against each other. His hands now pushing my hair back.
"Emma," he replied, and I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Ashton," I said again, giggling to myself.
"Emma," he answered, his thumb running over my lower lip.
"Ashton."
"Emma."
Silence.
"Emma?"
"Yes, Ashton?"
He broke our eye contact and looked down, his lip caught between his teeth. I could see his head going a mile a minute.
"Emma."
"Yeah?" I asked again, my worry growing a bit.
"Emma," he smiled, chuckling to himself. "I have to tell you."
"What?" I could feel my heart sinking, worried to hear what he was so caught on. It couldn't be good if it was so difficult for him to say.
"Emma, relax, it's nothing bad," he sighed, reading my mind.
"Then what is it?"
"Oh, Emma."
"Ashton."
"Emma," his hand traced my cheek and his eyes looked deeply into mine. My lips parted open slightly and he kissed me gently.
When he pulled away, his eyes were closed. I waited for what he was gonna say. He pulled our heads together, foreheads resting against each other one more time, and slowly opened his eyes.
"Emma."
He paused.
"I love you."
