chapter 17: capture

My heart began to thump in my chest rapidly, as the monster was charging full speed in our direction.
As it's feet hit the pavement, the road crumbled with every step it take, cracking and splitting the street.
I could feel the ground shaking, as it growled and ran. 

"AAAAAAAAHHH!!" I screamed and picked up my feet. I gripped MJ's hand tightly, and dragged her with me as I sprinted as fast as I could.

"OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!" She shrieked at the top of her lungs. "ITS CATCHING UP, WHAT DO WE DO?!"

My legs burned, and so did my lungs, begging for a rest, but we were running for our lives at this point.
Not knowing what else to do, I slid off my shoe and whipped it at the monster, hitting it in the face. With it distracted for a second, I yanked MJ's arm, and hurried into a stranger's driveway.

Skidding to a halt, we collapsed onto the ground behind a red van.
I panted so hard I was seeing small spots on my field of view.
Mary Jane had tears streaming down her face, and she was shaking uncontrollably. I hugged her from behind, and lowered onto the ground, my back against the driveway.
"Shh," I hushed, and she closed her mouth, but her eyes were still wide, and full of fear.
"Don't move." I whispered so quietly, she might not have heard me.

As Venom came around the corner into our field of view, I tensed up, and held my breath.

It was so quiet, the only thing that you could hear was the rustling of leaves, and the monster stomping along the ground.
I shut my eyes, and squeezed Mary close to me, still clutching her arm.

Wide eyed, we silently gaze in terror at this monster that also contained our best friend inside. It's long red tongue flicking this way and that, like a snake. Its white eyes seemed as if they were burning, flame-like edges around the shape.
It was a thing of nightmares, like it would have come right out of your worst one.

Mary started to squeal, and I clapped my hand over her mouth.

Venom whipped it's head around, and stared us down. Taking off after us, I screamed and rolled over.

"IT KNOWS WERE HERE!" Mary shrieked, and ran past the persons yard.

"OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!" I panted as I pumped my arms as fast as I could.

I looked back quickly, and it was... gone? I slowed down to a walk and peered around the houses and streets.
It just vanished.
"MARY JANE!" I called after her, and she looked back.

"Where is it?" She called, and I frantically looked around, trying to get a glimpse of it.

"Can it go invisible?"

"How should I-?" She got cut off by a growl coming from above us.

I peered up to see it scaling a wall of a house, ready to pounce. It had spider powers too?

"AAH!" I screamed and jumped back, as Venom landed on the street between me and Mary.
And it was facing me.
"OH GOD OH GOD!" I shouted and jumped back.
I tried to run away but it was no use. Before I knew it, my waist was wrapped in it's black, clawed hand.

"GWEN! NOOOOO!" Mary called after me as Venom whisked me away to God knows where.

I squirmed, and screamed, trying to loosen it's death grip, which was slowly tightening.
I punched my fists around it's hand as hard as I could, but it was so strong, the damage was almost inconsequential.
"LET ME GO! PETER LET ME GO!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!" I shouted.

"There's no 'Peter' anymore. Only Venom."
It growled loudly in a low tone, that made my ears ring.

I flailed my arms and legs around and screamed. "PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOWN!"
