Peter's POV
"What?!" Flash shouted, and I slumped down in my chair with a groan.
This can't be happening. I'm actually going to die.
"I'm sorry, is there a problem?" Mrs. Smith tilted her head to the side.
"I... I can't be paired up with the nerd! I have a reputation!" Flash shrieked. I buried my head in my hands.
"Well, I didn't seem to have another choice, because your grades are slipping to a D-. Peter has the highest grades in the class, so hopefully pairing you together will help you get back on track. Maybe that can save your 'reputation'." She put in air quotes.
A few people in the class laughed, and my face turned red.
"Come on..." Flash groaned, and slid down in his chair.
The teacher read the rest of the pairs, and I started to sweat. He was going to kill me, he was actually going to kill me. He's broken my nose and foot before, so whats going to stop him from doing it again? And we're going to be *shudder* alone together at at least one point if we were to work on it after school...
Getting paired up with Flash Thompson for anything is my worst nightmare, and now it's my reality.
...
After a long painful hour and 15 minutes of Flash being 25 feet too close to me, the ending bell finally rang. I sighed and gathered up all the papers on my desk as fast as possible. He had accomplished next to nothing, because the whole time he was chatting to someone next to me. So obviously, I was stuck doing all the work, as usual.
"I assume you're not going to help out?" I mumbled to him, as he stood up.
"No. And especially not with you." he sneered.
"So, I'll just finish it tonight?"
"Sure, whatever. I don't really give a fuck." he kicked my bag across the floor and then left the room. I went to go pick it up, when Kitty picked it up for me.
"Here." she said, and handed it over.
"Thanks." I said and swung it over my shoulder.
"Um," she then grabbed my arm. "I... need to talk to you."
"Ok, about what?"
"I can't really say it here. C'mon." she said, and proceeded to pull me outside, behind the school. I began getting a bit anxious.
"Uh, what's going on?" I finally asked.
"Okokok." she folded her hands and inhaled. "So, um I'm not who you think I am. I came to Midtown High looking for you."
There was a heavy feeling in my stomach, and I widened my eyes. This was getting creepy real quickly. I guess she noticed how terrified I looked, so she began frantically shaking her head.
"No no no... I didn't come here to kill you or anything! No... I-I uh, I'm Sprite. I'm with the X-Men."
"Oh... okay go- wait... what?! You're Sprite?! Holy shit, that's so cool! Oh my God! For real?" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, here." she held up a folder, and stuck her hand right through the cover, and out the other side.
"Oh my God... that's so cool, how do you do that? Do you like, change your particle forms to make yourself a lighter density than the objects you're phasing through? Or do you... shift your atoms through the spaces of the other atoms, or do-" I gawked over her abilities.
"Uh, I'm going to stop you there because if I'm being honest, I have no idea. I can't speak Science. Anyway that's not the point. You're Spider-Man, correct?" she asked, casually.
