«did you think you can escape these barlines?»

twinkle twinkle little star,
how my heart is black as tar.
up above the world so high,
all my sorrows sit and lie.
twinkle twinkle little star,
how i wonder who he is.

Chiharu's POV
As Hikaru silently wept on my shoulder, I retracted my arm as soon as he calmed down a little.
"I'm sorry, let me stay like this for awhile..." He said, eyes curtained by his bangs to hide his red, tear-deprived eyes.
I nodded and turned to look at the piano. An idea pops into my head. "I'll play you a song."
He raises his head a little.
"Huh...?"
I raised my hands a little and settled my left hand on the starting note. Pressing it, I first played the introduction, and then it's melody.
"Hitori Ja Nai Yo."
"Isn't this song from an anime?" He chuckled softly.
"No shit, Sherlock," I answered back with a small laugh. "I thought it would help you calm down."
He smiles a little and continues to listen. For some reason, I could play it smoothly. I was not scared of being a human metronome anymore. Hikaru is here, listening to my freelance playing as if he was telling me, that I am free to do whatever I wanted.
But at the same time, it felt lonely. Letting a bird go free, would tie down the feeling of sadness and longing to the person who kept it.
So it was the same. In order to free me, he tied himself down.
And I could not allow that.
"Hey, I have a question."
He turns to me, a confused look plastered on his face. "Yeah, sure."
"Why did you keep all of... this, a secret?" I asked him, curious to know why he did what he did. He smiles sadly, looking away from me as he pressed a key on the piano.
"I didn't think it needed to be said. I didn't want to trouble anyone. Especially you," He said as he placed his hand on my head, rubbing it as he continued smiling sadly at me. I sighed and grabbed his hand. I got up and removed his hand from my head. Walking towards my bag, I picked it up and strolled to the door.
"Let's go," I said as I gestured him to follow me. He nodded and grabbed his bag and followed me out of the room and the building.
The time spent walking to my apartment was awkward with the air filled with silence. I could almost hear my heart beat.
Suddenly, he stops in his tracks, his hand swiftly moved to his pocket and whipped out his phone.
I looked back, slightly confused as to what had happened.
