•The smile she once had [彼女はかつて笑顔]•
“smiling makes the world brighter.”
I wore my hoodie and carried my bag as quickly as possible.
"Well, What are you waiting for?"
He looks at me and starts to laugh nervously while scratching his head.
"What am I supposed to do with you..."
I mumbled to myself, soft enough to only let only myself hear it. Sighing, I took the first step out of the classroom and walked out briskly.
"H-hey hold up."
He walks faster, which means taking bigger steps than I did. He pulls off my hood and smiles at me.
He pats my caramel brown hair and reacting to that, I smacked his hand away and hit him by the side playfully.
"You look skinny but you sure have a very hard punch."
"Don't underestimate a girl."
With blood lust in my eyes, I forced myself to smile, which made Hikaru shudder because this girl here amazingly has no idea how to make one good smile.
He then scratches his head with a nervous laughter in his tone. As we continued walking down the pedestrian sidewalk beside the road, we remained silent.
The cars raced past us, creating a strong breeze to lift my hair up in the air a little. The creases on my school uniform flowed a little, I looked up into the bright pomegranate sky, that was never covered up by the clouds that acted like open curtains. The sun was setting below the horizon, but it was a beautiful scene.
I stopped in my tracks, observing the littlest details of the movements in the sky. The clouds floating as slow as possible, the sun setting every minute and the sight of birds, flying freely with their glorious wings of freedom.
It seemed so... nostalgic... It has been a long time... since I felt this calm.
I closed my eyes and breathe in the fresh evening breeze. It was so soothing, to the point that I actually felt compelled to sing. Although singing was not really my forte, I could not help myself. Slowly my feet brought me closer towards an empty playground, with a confused Hikaru tailing me from behind.
"Yamasaki? Where are you going?"
Silence answered him as I climbed to the top of the slide and sat on the highest point. Taking a deep breath, I unzipped my violin case and played a sentimental tune. A tune almost familiar to younger children.
Come, little children,
I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantmentCome, little children,
the time's come to play
Here in my garden of shadows
