I grabbed Marcus's arm and tossed him aside.
I really don't want to do this. It was the Ninja girl's fault for getting ahead of herself.
The fact that I'm just saving her ass from her mistake is a real pain. This little brat owes me big time.
At first, the guards were witnessing the show. But, after I jumped in an actually managed to harm Marcus, the guards took action.
Two of the guards tried to slash at me with their swords. I grabbed one of the blades and used it to block the other one.
I then kicked the guard, who's blade I intercepted, over to the other guard next to him. Once those two guards were knocked out, the remaining two charged at me.
I didn't want to waste my time with them, so I used [Sleep Mist] on them. As soon as the mist hit them, they dropped to the floor.
That takes care of that problem. Now, let's deal with the little brat's wound.
I walked over to the Ninja girl, who currently collapsed on the floor. When I got to her, I was about to [Minor Heal] on her, but she stopped me.
She swatted my hand away from her.
". . . Don't even try it." She glared at me.
Wow, even when she's dying, she acts like a brat. Maybe I should just let her die.
Unfortunately, I have a conscious, and that conscious is telling me that if I don't save her, it'll haunt me later. Damn it.
"Look, I'm all for you dying, believe me. But, my conscious doesn't want that, and I'm forced to listen to it. So, shut up and let me heal."
The Ninja girl didn't say a word and allowed me to heal her. After I used [Minor Heal] on her, the wound in her stomach slightly disappeared.
The wound was still there, but it wouldn't cause any further damage besides a few sharp pains.
If I could, I would use [Greater Heal], but I haven't learned that spell yet. Plus, even when I learn the spell, it takes a while for me to master it.
Anyway, once I finished reluctantly healing Ninja girl, Marcus got up. He looked angry.
"Didn't anyone tell you that butting in other people's business is bad manners?" He snarled at me.
"Believe me when I say I was rooting for you to kill the brat. With this girl out of the way, my life would be easier."
"Then, why stop me?" He asked with a confused face.
"Unlike you, I have a conscious, and my conscious didn't want the girl to die, so I had to listen to it."
My explanation made Marcus laugh. Did I say something funny?
"What's so funny?"
"Apologies. It's just that I didn't expect someone like you to actually care about the lives of others. I thought you cared for the forest and nothing else."
"Even I don't have a heart of stone. Although it's a drag, it's what makes me human."
"Hmm, I see."
While we were talking, Ninja girl managed to get up. She was clutching on to her stomach, but she seemed okay.
"My, my. Looks like the newcomer's back in action," Marcus smiled like some sadist. "Well, it doesn't matter if two of you come at me, the results will be the same. I'll win."
"You sound pretty confident even though I tossed you earlier." I taunted him.
This only pissed Marcus off even more. Even though he was smiling more sadistically, his aura displayed his anger.
