Chapter Seventeen

"...he's stable. He's breathing. But he's going to have a hard time walking and talking for a while. You are very lucky Ms. Riihimaki, we were barely able to get him breathing again," She said.

My eyes widened, my breathing steadied, and I sat there stunned for a while. Taking the hint that I probably wasn't going to answer, the nurse went back into the waiting room. I stood up from my position and tried to find the cafeteria. I wandered the halls, searching for my friends. Finally I found a sign labeled-"Cafeteria." I walked in and immediately found who I was looking for. I saw Will and he saw me. I ran up and hugged him, my best friend, my brotherly figure, Will, is what I needed at this moment.

"Lauren? You're off the floor, what happened?" He asked.

"He's okay! Alex is okay!" I cried in pure joy. He was okay! The love of my life was going to be with me still, but the voice inside my head still worried me, why had it been there?

"That's great! It's a freaking miracle that's what it is!" Will said.

"Is everything okay?" Serena came up to us.

I got down from Will's hold and gently hugged Serena. "Does this mean you can come back?"

"Yep," She smiled widely. I gasped in surprise, I haven't been able to fully hangout with Serena since Sophomore year, or the night of my sixteenth birthday party. The same night I met Alex.

I went and sat down with them and then I saw four more guests enter the Cafeteria. My heart melted and filled again with happiness.

"Liza! Ethan! David! Grayson!" I jumped up and greeted them.

"We heard about Alex, I'm so sorry. Are you okay? Is he okay?" Grayson's husky voice asked me.

"Well at first I wasn't okay but then I heard that he'll be okay and I'm fine now," I smiled widely.

Grayson hugged me and so did Ethan. I led all of them to the table where everyone was sitting. Luckily, all of them were already friends and so they started talking  casually, like they were old buds from way back. Eventually we all finished eating our meals and went back to the waiting room. A few hours passed by and still no word about Alex.

"Lauren?" Grayson asked.

"Yeah?"

"I need to talk to you," He said quietly because his twin was asleep on his lap.

"Sure." My eyes moved towards Ethan. He motioned for Liza to come and take his place so Ethan wouldn't wake up.

Grayson got up and we walked out the door.

"What's up?" I asked.

"There is no way that I have the right to ask this, but what exactly happened?" He asked cautiously.

I stuttered in the beginning, trying to recall everything dating back to when I first met Alex but I eventually told him everything. About Serena being raped and stalked, my abusive mom, Dawn's cancer, My emancipation, Baz, Lilli, and my dad. And everything since it all started. There were a lot of pauses and short realizations.

"I've never told anyone the full story," I admitted.

"Well, I'm honored," He joked. "But in all honesty, I'm so sorry this had to of happened to you. You don't deserve this."

"That's what everyone says but I say it's just life. The only concern in my life right now is Alex and making sure he is okay."

"I understand. We should probably get back in there before Ethan realizes it's not me holding him."
