"Baz?" I murmured. "What are you doing here! I haven't seen you since Toronto!" I was astonished.
"Lauren, it took me forever to find you. How's the fam? What's the latest?" He asked.
Baz was a childhood friend that Lilliana and I would hang out with all the time. Our classmates-even Lilliana-always speculated that there was something more than friends between us but there never actually was, not to me at least. When dad left with lilli and the other woman, mom and I moved to LA. Baz and I fell out of touch and haven't seen each other in a while.
"Nothing much has happened..." I hesitated.
"Oh. Okay. Well I kept in touch with your sister. We're pretty great...friends...now actually. She texted me and said she saw you today and I was like 'well I'm visiting anyway why not go and see her' so I did and I'm glad I found you!" He stopped to catch his breath.
"Wait...you and lilli stayed friends?" I asked.
"Well sorta yeah. Me and her aren't actually...friends," he explained. "We're kinda dating."
I jumped backward a bit. "Wait for real. Even though she's two years younger?"
"She's not that much younger. And what happened Laur! I thought you didn't care about age difference either!" He said snippily.
"Well not really...it's just she's my sister and you're like my old best friend and to hear you guys are like a thing is kind of weird. I mean she's only fourteen and you're sixteen!" I nodded my head trying to process things.
"Love is Love." He replied.
"Yeah. Yeah you're right. Just protective of her you know?" I calmly said back.
"Of course because you're her sister." His voice was getting deeper. He was also coming closer.
"Lauren?" A very familiar voice had said. I turned around to see Alex who caught me at the best possible time.
"Oh Alex thank god. Let's go." I started walking towards him when Baz grabbed my arm and forcefully turned me around.
"Let's hang out sometime. Okay?" His smile widened.
"Um I'm probably going to be busy," I said.
"He warned me with a look, "I haven't even said when Laur?"
"Baz I've um got to go," I said. Then I yanked my arm away from Baz and walked out the door with Alex.
"Alex can we ditch and go to that relaxing spot please?" I begged.
"Yeah of course." He wrapped his arm around me and walked me to his car. We took off and I sat in the passenger side enjoying the wind hit my face.
After a while I found myself in a pretty secluded spot. I doubted that anyone knew it existed.
"So we're here. It's pretty deserted, no one really knows it's here anymore," he led me to the single bench that patrolled the place.
"This is actually amazing, like honestly Alex, I really love it!" I flung open my arms and pulled him into a hug. He smiled and picked me up in the hug and twirled me around.
"I'm glad you like it. So, Lauren, you don't have to tell me. But I was wondering," he hesitated. "What happened today?" His face dropped. His expression shown of worry.
"Um. Well I got into a fight with Dawn. She thinks you're an F boy and just want to get laid. But I tried to explain to her that you aren't and you make me happy. And then I stormed off because she wasn't giving in. Then someone yanked me into the nearest empty classroom. It was Baz-my childhood best friend-and he was telling me he's dating my fourteen year old sister. He started coming closer and I was freaking out and then you showed up, which I am so thankful for. How did you show up automatically though?"
"My locker is right next to that classroom Lauren," he laughed. "Anyway, Baz obviously can't be trusted. And if I were you I would try to make amends with Dawn. I know she thinks I'm bad for you But I promise I'm only here for you." He smiled.
"I knew that. I just don't know how to make amends." I said.
"Just talk to her. Try to explain things and don't forget to add an inside joke somewhere along there." He laughed.
We just sat and laughed for a while. Then we got up to stretch our legs and mine fell asleep so I started to waddle around.
"What a little chicken nugget!" He yelled.
I laughed, "Fine! If I'm a chicken nugget then you're a chicken tender!" He started waddling around as well.
"Chicken Nugget! Wait for me!" He was laughing, so hard tears were coming out.
"I will scream, chicken tender, I promise" I was laughing hard as well. He fast waddled up and caught me by the waist. I was pulling forward.
"Don't do it!!!!!" He yelled.
"Chicken tender!" I screamed. We both fell down, dying of laughter. Definitely the most fun I've had in a long time, maybe ever. We rolled over on our back and looked at the sky.
"Lauren I wanted to ask you something." Alex said.
"Sure. What is it?" I asked.
"I was wondering if you were up to being with me." He said.
"Wait you mean like as a girlfriend?" I asked hoping he'd say yes.
"Well yeah." He laughed.
I turned my head to look at him, "yes Alex I would love to."
He smiled, the biggest smile I've ever seen from him and turned back to the sky. We walked back hand in hand to the car, and he opened the door for me.
"Thank you kind sir" I said politely.
"Of course malady" he giggled. Alex could be so silly sometimes I was adorable. Every day I could feel myself falling for him even more. Now I could finally be called his and I can call him mine. It was my dream come true. We drove out of the spot and were on the road.
"So I was thinking. Would you like to come over to my place?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, Sure," I said.
"Okay. But before we get there, I live with four other people." He said cautiously.
"Oh who?" I asked interested.
"Roi, my best friend and co worker. Aaron, my older brother. Will, our other best friend and editor. And Kyle, our cameraman." Alex explained.
"Oh cool. I haven't seen any of them at school. Are you the only one who isn't homeschooled?"
"Pretty much. Except Aaron, he just goes to a different school."
"Nice," I said. I didn't want the conversation to end there but it did anyway. We showed up at Alex's house, it was pretty nice and perfect sized for five people. We were still holding hands by the time we were at his door.
"So I think you'll like Roi and Aaron. I don't know so much about Kyle and Will," he gave me a crooked smile.
"I'm sure I'll like them, they are your friends after all." I gave him a warm hearted smile.
"You're amazing Lauren." He hugged me and then opened the door.
"Hey everyone! I have company!" He yelled up the stairs. Roi came running down the stairs first and jumped off the last two. I knew right off the bat I liked him, just based off his childish ways.
"Hi! I'm Roi! What's your name?" He bounced. I laughed playfully.
"I'm Lauren." I responded.
"Nice! Do you have a YouTube channel?" He asked seemingly interested.
"No I don't unfortunately but I'm thinking about it." I said.
"You should! Yo Alex we should collab with her!" He was full of energy and it made me want to bounce off the walls.
"We should! What do you say, Chicken Nugget?" He asked with an irresistible tone.
"I would love too!" I answered.
"You guys have nicknames? Are you two a thing?" Aaron said as he was walking down the stairs.
"Yeah," he smiled and looked into my eyes. I looked at Aaron hoping he'd accept me.
"Better hope she's the one Alex, you don't have time for drama." Aaron said peacefully and just walked away.
"Well I ship it!" Roi emphasized.
"Thanks bud," Alex laughed. "Where's Kyle and Will?"
"Kyle is with Mia and Will is working on his channel." Roi explained.
"Mia is Kyle's girlfriend and Will has his own YouTube. To be honest, I don't understand why he still works for us when he has to keep up with his own channel." Alex told me.
"Oh cool! So what do you guys do on your channel." I asked.
"Um we're basically dumb. We do comedy skits and challenges. Oh! We also upload every Wednesday. Speaking of which, today is Wednesday. I should probably get back to editing." Roi simply waved and walked back up the stairs.
"I like Roi. He seems like a great friend," I laughed.
"Yeah he's pretty great!" Alex exclaimed.
*Ding*
My phone went off.
"Mind if I check this?" I asked Alex.
"Of course." He said.
"Thank you chicken tender," I said in a cute voice and walked off.
"Nessa is sleeping over. I don't want you coming back tonight. Not when I'm in this mood with you." Don't bother coming back for your clothes, I'm already home and I don't want to see you." She texted.
I wanted to cry. What am I supposed to
do? I can't tell Alex, he's already done enough for me.
"Well what am I supposed to do? I don't have anything for tomorrow morning!" I texted her back.
"That sounds like a you problem. See ya!" She ended our conversation.
I had nothing to do. I had no where to stay. I had nothing to take care of myself with. Then I realized I was starting to show that I was upset.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked.
I didn't know if I should tell him. He's already done enough for me.
"Um well I have no where to stay as of now." I let him in.
"Did she really kick you out of the house!" He was more upset then confused at this point.
"For tonight, I think, yes." I could see his face getting
angrier.
"Oh my god Lauren. Please stay here! I'm sure you can wear one of my shirts as pajamas and I have a shower. And luckily I have an extra toothbrush." I was speechless.
He was willing to do anything for me. I honestly think I was falling in love with him. But it's not possible. Right? Love wasn't a thing. Right? I looked at him and immediately felt a ping in my heart. I kept trying to reassure my self. Because, love isn't real. It couldn't be. Right?
