Luna tapped her fingers on the steering wheel as the analog clock in her car switched to 4:40 pm. She was due to meet her friend, Ginny, in ten minutes and the train ahead didn't seem to end for miles. At least the weather was beautiful, as was the girl in the car next to hers -- not that Luna liked her. She didn't. Right?

Said girl had dark hair and skin, beautiful brown curls that stuck every which way in this heat, and big brown eyes. She seemed to be in a hurry herself, if the fingers she was jabbing at the train said anything. She seemed to be yelling as well, and Luna couldn't help but wonder how such a cute girl could hold so much anger toward an inanimate object.

Before giving it much thought, Luna had leant through the window and waved. "Hello!"

The girl stopped gesturing and yelling and possibly blushed. "Hi."

"I'm Luna Lovegood."

The girl smiled. "Hermione Granger."

"Why are you so angry?" Luna asked.

Hermione seemed surprised at the straightforward question. "I, I'm supposed to be meeting with my boy friend's family now. Not, boyfriend, I mean, boy space friend. They live another hour away, and I hate being late."

Luna nodded. "You're rather pretty."

Hermione squeaked. "Thank you." She paused. "So are you. Your outfit's interesting."

Luna would admit, not many liked her sense of style. Dad encouraged it, but back in school she was bullied awfully. "Thank you Hermione Granger. No one's ever said that."

"Really?"

"People call me Loony." Luna shrugged. It was quite sad, but she was used to it. She told Hermione so.

"That's awful, Luna," Hermione let out a breath. "but I like you."

Luna smiled at her. "Thank you. I like you too."

"Coffee sometime?" Hermione asked, handing a slip of paper through the window.

Luna nodded. "The train's gone."

And with that, they went their separate ways.

Luna had a friend, and Hermione didn't have road rage anymore.

Well, until the next train.
