Phoenix's POV
Malcolm's come back early. I don't know what to do. I didn't expect this and now I have made him increasingly angry because he saw me with Kiara. If I just made her leave yesterday and woken her up on the couch after talking to Danny then none of this would have ever happened.
Malcolm was probably going to do something bad. To hurt me, maybe even hurt Kiara I don't know, it's just I always needed permission to bring a friend over but Kiara turned up with no warning.
Since mother was in the hospital, I know Malcolm will be harsher on me than usual. Generally, he is worse when he's drunk, and I could definitely smell it on him.
You know what? Of course he has to come home when the one time in years I have brought a friend over. The fates must really hate me.
I contemplated telling the police or something about all of this when I was younger, but we wouldn't have had a way to make money if Malcolm was sent away to jail. That didn't really matter anyway, because mother was, and probably still is, in love with Malcolm. She was oblivious to everything that he has done to us these past few years. Well I guess love really is blind.
