They took us to a camp in the woods. There were hundreds of wolves here. They all gathered around us with happy and suspicious faces. They dropped Kasha on the ground and I immediately went to her. She was crying and whining. I couldn’t tell if she was whining because she was sad or because she was hurt. Some of the wolves rejoiced and welcomed their pack-mates back, while other stood and watched Kasha and I with steady and careful gazes.

The crowd started to part and a man walked over to us. “I am Liam, alpha of this pack.” He had a deep and commanding voice. He was tall, with big muscles and a rough face. He turned and faced his pack. “With the help of these two we have gained back our members the hunters had captured.” The wolves howled and baked with joy. He turned back to us. “I owe you. I may have been injured in my mission to get back our members. The pack is indebted to you.” He bowed to us and then the other wolves followed. They all bowed to us and it was nice.

“Thank you but we owe you as well for breaking us out.”

“Stand, you are welcome in this pack.” I looked to Kasha and the look in her eyes was heartbroken. I was trying to stay positive, and I was trying not to think about it. But it seemed it was all Kasha could think of. They were just recently bonded. The bond was fresh and new for her. This has to be horrible. I stood up and Kasha tried to follow but she yelped. I sank back to my knees and I looked at the back leg she held off the ground. It was bleeding but it also looked broken. She wasn’t going anywhere until this got better. Which meant we had to stay here until she was better.

“Quickly, get the doctor. She is injured.” I stayed with Kasha. It took a few minutes but a man came over, and he looked in his mid-thirties. He was bulky but not as big as Liam. He tried to touch her leg and Kasha freaked out. She whipped around and snapped at him.

“Kasha stop! He’s trying to help you.” She growled at me and him. Her eyes turned a deep yellow that almost seemed gold. She was furious and confused. “Kasha” I said concerned. She barked and then she dropped to the ground. I rushed over and I saw she had a dart in her side. I looked up and Liam had a small gun.

“She needs medical attention, and it was clear she was too agitated to allow it.” I nodded. The doctor picked up Kasha and brought her into a tent. I stayed with her as he treated her.

Could Cam and Nate be gone? They couldn’t have meant them. There was no way some hunters took out two alphas. It just couldn’t be. It seemed impossible. I had seen Nate fight, and I knew he could be vicious. He wouldn’t go down very easily. But as I thought I had mainly seen him fighting with the pack or even me. I had never seen him fight alone. But he wasn’t alone. He had Cam. There he had another alpha I’m sure they’re fine.

“Here.” I looked up and the doctor was holding a tissue out to me. I then sensed my cheeks were damp. I smiled and took it. I wiped my eyes.

It was a long process. He had to set Kasha’s leg, stitch up her wound, and put a splint on her leg. He said Kasha wouldn’t be able to walk for a few days.

The tent opened and Liam and another guy came in. He looked at the doctor. “How is she?”

The doctor started to clean his tools. “She’ll be fine. The break wasn’t too bad and the wound wasn’t fatal. When she wakes up she’ll be groggy and hurting a little but she’ll be fine with time.”

Liam looked to me. “Are you alright?” I nodded. “This is my beta, Ty.” Ty smiled at me.

“I’m Nia, and my friend is Kasha.”

“Nice to meet you.” He looked back to the doctor. “Get her some clothes and show her to the gathering for dinner. She will be sitting with me.” Then they walked out.
