We were running when suddenly a wolf jumped in front of us. It was a brown wolf and he was snarling at us. Nia grabbed my arm tighter and hid me behind her. The wolf was snarling at us and his yellow eyes looked pissed. My heart was beating fast and my wolf was going nuts. My instincts said to run. There was a threat near.

Nia growled, it was feral and vicious. “Get away” she growled. In return the wolf took a menacing step forward. Nia growled and took a step back. I took a step back too but unfortunately there was a fallen branch and I tripped over it. I fell back and landed on my butt. Nia looked back concerned and in her distraction the wolf jumped at her.

I screamed and in front of my eyes I saw Nia shift. But instead of what I expected a huge tiger landed across from the wolf. What the hell is Nia? I didn’t think shifters still existed. I was told that they went extinct.

Nia and the brown wolf faced off. They circled each other, growling and daring the other to attack. I watched in pained silence. My own instincts were going crazy and everything inside of me was saying to shift but I didn’t think that would be the best. The wolf jumped a Nia and she lunged too. They met in air and I wasn’t sure who had grabbed who. They fell to the ground and I saw that Nia had sunk both her claws and her fangs into the wolf. He was yelping and growling.

I slowed my breathing and got up from the ground. They continued to wrestle, and it was clear within minutes who was winning. Nia was just tearing this wolf up. The wolf lunged and Nia went on her back paws. She roared and yet again sank her claws in. the wolf struggled to get away but it seemed that Nia had gotten a grip of him and she wasn’t letting go. Then another wolf came running. He was going to bite Nia when her back was turned.

Without thinking it through I ran over and tackled the wolf. I didn’t so much tackle him as I took all of his tackle. I was thrown across the forest and if the impact of his sturdy body didn’t hurt enough, it doubled when I crashed against a tree. All the air was pushed from my body and I’m pretty sure I heard at least two of my ribs pop. I fell to the ground and my body spasmed. Holy crap that hurt. I screamed as the pain registered in my head. Tackling an overgrown wolf in my human form wasn’t my best idea. But I didn’t have time to shift and I couldn’t let him attack Nia.

I was shuddering on the ground as the pain exploded through my body and I thought my torso was being stabbed. I whined as the pain just got worse. There was an even worse roar that ripped through the trees, and I wondered who that had come from. I turned my head around and standing in front of me was a full grown back bear. I realized it was Nia, when I also noticed the lack of tiger anywhere. Nia stood off the two wolves, furious and unyielding. The two wolves didn’t even blink and they slowly crept towards Nia. Nia roared again and I swear I heard the pure fury in her voice. A shot of pain went through me and it knocked me back. I turned my head back so I face forward. I took deep breaths and tried to fight the pain. Wow, this killed. I must have cracked some ribs. I tried to take steady breaths but as the pain became to be too much, I was getting unstable and shaky. Tears were prickling my eyes.

I just want to go home. I want to snuggle in Cam’s arms and let him take all the pain away. I whined and the tears escaped. My hearing went and I couldn’t hear a thing. I did unfortunately hear the irregularly fast beating of my heart.

Two wolves ran past me and for a moment I was worried for Nia. She couldn’t take on four wolves. But their scents rushed up my nose and they were from her pack. The two wolves took on the other two and Nia quickly shifted back. “Kasha, oh my god. Are you alright?” she asked rushed and panicked.

“Yeah, but my whole stomach is sore” I said pained. Being reduced to this pain really gives you a reality check. I guess before I walked around thinking I was a badass because never had I thought would I feel this type of pain. You take for granted being a werewolf. Actually getting knocked down puts things in perspective.
