Chapter 27

Trigger warning, mentions of depression, suicide, and cutting.

Evalina's P.O.V.

Over the course of the next two days I watched the live stream and saw that the Newsies for their papers and gave the next clue. I started a new video and already had the script done and my voice recorded. I had the first two frames drawn. I got to see all of Natalie and Sean's hometown.

They did help me take a break and said I wasn't allowed to work. I didn't sleep much though. My mind was on tour and I've made a decision. I can't stick around. Now you may be thinking I'm gonna leave tour but I'm not. I've just decided I can't get any closer to them. I'm going to have to start avoiding them. It's been on my mind and I don't want what happened to Veronica to happen to any one of them.

"Are you sure you have to leave?" Natalie asked me as I was packing my things into Cassandra's car. "Yeah, I'm sorry but don't worry I'll see you soon hopefully." I said, she gave me a quick hug. "And Sean." "Yeah, E?" "Treat her well, or I'll come back and make sure to beat you." Sean laughed. "Yeah, yeah. I love you to. And if any of those boys give you trouble I beat their as*es for you." He said with a wink. He pulled me into a bear hug to which I laughed. "Wait, before you go, let's take a picture together. You haven't been here in a while." Natalie said. "I'll take the picture if you guys want." Cassandra said, jumping out of the drivers seat. "Alright, two serious and one silly." I got in between Sean and Natalie, they wrapped their arms around my shoulders. "Smile, my child." Natalie said. I laughed. "One day you will legally be our child." Sean said while smiling."Pretty sure that's not possible." "We'll find a way." Natalie replied." "I'm sure you will." I said with a chuckle. 

"Say cheese." Cassandra said. We all smiled. Then for the last two they put my on their shoulders. "Wow guys, looks like I'm the queen of this family." "Yasss queen!" Cassandra shouted while chuckling. "Alright now Cassandra get over here." Natalie said. We somehow managed to take three pictures all scrunched together. "I'll see you guys soon." I said with a laugh and entered the car. "Hey, Lina." "Hey, Cas." "You ready?" "Ready as you are." I hopped in to the vehicle as she did too. Afterwards we drove away. "So how's your issue been?" "I've figured it out. I'm just going to avoid them." I said nonchalantly. 

Suddenly the car came to a quick halt. She turned on the emergency lights and pulled over to the side of the rode. "You're telling me. That you E on Broadway Evalina Calhoun is running away from her problems." She said looking me dead in the eye. "I'm not running from my problems, I'm trying to keep them safe. The last time I got too close to someone something bad happened. Natalie ever tell you about Veronica?" "You mean Veronica Selwick? Close friend of hers?" "Yeah. Well, she was always there by my side trying to help as were Natalie and Sean and a couple others. They were my family you know. We were so close but then... my parents intervened trying to tell me not to get distracted and such. So eventually some things led to another and they tried to separate us.  Then Veronica went through some things that caused her to go into a state of depression. She cut herself and eventually I found out when I had come to visit her. I was able to get her to therapy but things started going down hill in her life. Eventually she attempted...." I took a deep breath trying not to let out a sob choking softly. "She tried to kill herself. As soon as I got wind I flew from where I was with my parents to be with her. They managed to get there in time. When I was there I spent hours before she woke up. She started crying and hugged me saying she just wanted to be free of all the pain. She confided everything into me, I told her I'd help her through it the best I could. Before my parents came and snatched me up again, she gave me this necklace. I wear it religiously." I said showing Cassandra the little key that was around my neck. (I'll post a picture of it in the next chapter) A month later she did it again leaving notes for all of us behind. I always carry mine around with me. I don't want that to ever happen to anyone. So I try to keep my distance. That's why I've made my decision, Cass. I don't want this to happen again." I said.

"Sweetie, that couldn't have been your fault. Trust me, she knew what she was going through you can't blame yourself because of it." Cassandra said pulling me into a side hug and wiping my tears. "You're one of the sweetest and most kindest people I know and we haven't even known each other for very long. Don't blame yourself for things you can not control and I'm sure she's in a better place, watching over you." Cassandra said. "Look at me, it was not your fault, don't blame yourself for it." "You're a good person, you know that Cassandra." I said with a light smile. "There's the smile I know and love." She said smiling back at me. She got back onto the road and we drove mostly in silence. "Tell me about your girlfriend." I said when we were halfway through.

So for the rest of the ride we talked about her relationship which resulted in a lot of her blushing. We eventually pulled up at the hotel. I grabbed my bags and such. I put Ben's hat back on my head. "Thanks Cassie. For everything. I hope to see you soon and I'll text and call you." I said as I walked out of the vehicle. "Bye, Lina. Love you, hun." I walked through the hotel checking back into my room. It's October 24th (I kind of got some of the dates mixed up but don't worry) Alright, since I'm back so late then this probably means I'll make it in time for the evening show then I'll be there for the matinee and evening show tomorrow. I quickly made my way to my room. But right before I did I made sure to drop off Ben's hat at his door. I left a note on it then knocked on his door. 

I quickly scurried back to my room. As I was unlocking it I heard footsteps coming. I hurried and scanned my card then entered my room and locked the door. I slid against the door and dropped my bags. I then looked out the peephole to see who was walking by. It was just Steve and Merideth. I sighed and began unpacking. This is going to be an interesting day. I changed into some more comfortable clothes, which were addidas pants and an over sized Cats t-shirt. Then I got ready to head over to the theater.
