I hid behind a tree as I spied on my mother while she was reading a book. She had long brown hair that went to her waist with dark brown eyes. She was extremely beautiful and kind too. She wouldn't hurt a fly. Some people say I look like her but I didn't believe them because I was only eight. I also was told I have the same eyes and hair but my hair went to my shoulders.

"Welcome home!" I yelled as I jumped onto her lap with a huge smile.

"What the?! Oh hello there Mel." She said and then smiled back at me.

"I missed you, Mommy! Why couldn't you come home sooner?"

"I was only gone for a day," she said as she messed my hair up.

"But it felt like forever I was so bored."

"Didn't you go to your dance class?" she said and I looked away from her with a defiant look on my face.

"No."

"Why not? Don't you love to go to your class."

"I do... but... not when you're not there." I pouted

"When I am not there just pretend I am. By the way, when is your tutor supposed to be here?"

"Now. But I don't want to go it's boring."

"Well you have to you need to be educated."

"Oh come on your no fun."

"Oh really!" She said then she started to tickle me and I laughed until I was almost in tears.

"Melissa Stassen!" someone yelled from down the hill and we both stopped. My tutor was at the bottom of the hill with his hands crossed as he tapped his foot.

"Looks like you have to go, Mel, I will talk to you later," she said and I nodded and took off running down the hill as I held my dress up so I didn't trip over it.

<7 years later.>

My mother had passed away six months ago. Since then my father had remarried another Nobleman's daughter who already had two children. My Step siblings were twins and are only a few months older than me. A boy and a girl named Tanner and Carol. Tanner and his friends love to pick on me while Carol looked down on me like I was trash. Both were spoiled rotten and had their stuck-up attitude just like their mother. She two thought I was trash and was a deliquent.

I saw a dark alleyway and I took off running down it. I touched my lip and saw it was bleeding and my left side was pretty sore now most likely it will leave a bad bruise. My hair was pulled back into a low ponytail as it reached my upper back. I was running from two boys that were my age one had blonde hair and green eyes while the other one had red hair and freckles all over his face.

"Get back here!" the redhead yelled.

"Hey, Melissa! Wait till Mother hears what you have done!" My stepbrother yelled at me as they chased me.

"What I've done?! You mean what you did." I yelled back at them at them. They had purposely tripped me into a Military Policeman making him fall over the railing of the bridge and into the water and then blaming it on me.

The ally ended and there was a busy street and a Military Policeman was waiting at the end. I stopped looking behind me and I saw those two catching up to me. I thought frantically then I saw a stack of crates that were next to a wall between me and the Military Policeman. I ran up to them and I quickly climbed up the pile then jumped off at the top.

As I fell the Officer reached to grab my foot and I decided to do a front flip. His hand barely grassed my ankle and I managed to get out of his reach.

I landed on my feet and I dodged an oncoming cart that almost hit me. I ran through the street dodging people and jumping over carts. Out of now where someone grabbed me by my waist and I elbowed them in the gut. I tried running but someone else grabbed me and put me in a headlock. I hit them in the face with the back of my head and I jumped in the air and threw myself down to the ground making him fly off me and over my shoulders. I tried running again but this time a net was thrown over me causing me to fall to the floor. I sat on my knees and I looked around me as the Military Police surrounded me. I noticed someone in between the officers then I spotted a blonde haired man wearing the same uniform as the Military Police but instead of a Green Unicorn patch he had blue and white wings instead. He was staring at me with an interested expression on his face.

Later that night I was sitting on our stairs as the maid handed me a cold wet rag to put on my lip. Everyone was there except my Father. My step sister was standing in the doorway to the living room and my step brother was leaning against the wall next to her with a big smirk on his face while he had his eyes closed. My stepmother was pacing the room with her blonde hair up in a bun and her face red and her vein on her forehead was sticking out.

"WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU PUSH A MILITARY OFFICER OF A BRIDGE?!" she yelled at me.

"It was not my-"

"WOULD YOU STOP BLAMING YOUR BROTHER! YOU RAN AWAY AND ASSAULTED TWO MORE OFFICERS!"

"I was just-"

"AND WORST OF ALL YOU EMBARRASSED OUR FAMILY! YOUR FATHER WOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOU RIGHT NOW!"

"Yea right! 'Our family' you have got to be kidding!" I said and she stopped and looked at me.

"As your mother, I am grounding you and you are not going to dance lessons anymore-"

"You can't-"

"I'M TAKING YOU OUT OF THE CHOIR AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO LEAVE THIS HOUSE UNTIL I SAY YOU CAN!"

"What?! You can't just lock me up in this house!" I yelled at her.

"I'm your mother I could lock you in this house all I want." She said as she crossed her arms. I turned around and I started walking up stairs then stopped.

"YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER NOR MY FAMILY!" I yelled as I closed my eyes and bent down while I held on to the railing. I waited for a response and I didn't get one so I headed towards my room then slammed the door.

About an hour later I was sitting on my bed with my head resting on my knees while I folded up my arms around my legs. I was starring out the window wondering if I'll ever see the outside of these walls.

"How could people say their fine living here trapped inside these walls. Like a bird trapped in a cage." I said to myself.
