Jamie's pov

Tyler's eyes were glued onto the road. Today was our date, except since he didn't just want to spend a few two hours with me, he decided to have an entire date day. So, it was currently eleven a.m.. Kites in the backseat and on our way to a nearby park. I had a stupid grin plastered on my face, happily riding in the passenger seat.

"Take a picture, it'll last longer." Tyler said, breaking his protracted silence.

Only then did I realize, I had been gawking at him. I felt my cheeks heat up, but I didn't give in to his mock. Instead, I held my phone up and snapped a picture of him. "Hmm, cute." I mumbled, looking at the picture I took of him.

"Really Jamie? You didn't even let me prepare. I look like a potato right now," Tyler said, making me laugh.

The placid park began to come into view. It looked a bit unoccupied. There wasn't really a playground, just the tall trees patterning the park and a midsize pond hiding in the back between trees. Tyler parked the car, as I reached in the back for the kites and a plastic bag that held a pack of twelve sharpie markers. Ty quickly got out of the vehicle and ran to my side, only to open the door.

"Let me get that for you," Ty offered, holding his hands out to retrieve the kites from my grasp.

I got out of the car, gripping the kites tighter. "I can handle it."

I walked past him and over to a wood picnic table that rested under a shade. I took the weight off my feet and sat down, Ty soon joined, sitting across from me. I laid the diamond kites on the surface of the table and began to open the package of sharpies.

"So, I, um sent in my resume for college." Tyler unexpectedly said.

I had the urge to drop everything and glance up at him, but instead I took the colored markers out of the packaging. "Oh, wow." I paused, taking the black marker out first, then the royal blue one, lining it after the previous one. "Where?" I asked.

He took in a deep breath before responding, "It's the community college from our neighboring city."

I remember the brief discussion of college talking with Megan and Ty, but it was always still undecided. I know for a fact that Megan was in the proccess of sending in a resume for a college in the next two states, which had me a bit heart broken.

"Have you decided anything, regarding the whole college thing?" Tyler questioned as I placed down a dark purple after a red.

"Still looking," was the only thing I said. I set the last marker down, a brown sharpie. "Shall we get started on these kites?" I spoke, desperately, but subtly changing the topic.

For the next twenty to thirty minutes, Tyler and I doodled on the diamond shaped kites. I doodled colorful diamonds, hearts, pretty flowers, some skulls and my best attempt of drawing an owl. Tyler's was filled with different kinds of designs. Too many to pinpoint anything that looked familiar. I caught some tiny birds, but that was it. I smiled at the finished results and didn't wait on Tyler to take my doodled kite over to the open field of the park. The wind was already beginning to pick the kite up. I took a hold of the reel and let the wind take control.

The doodled diamond looked painted nicely against the warm sky. And soon, there were two beautiful kites dancing in the blue yonder.

"Have you thought about prom?" Tyler abruptly spoke again.

I raised my brows a bit, letting the wind guide my kite and I closer to the pond. "Oh, that's in like two months or something, right?"

"Yeah, it is..." he took steps closer towards me.

I shrugged. "Megan will probably drag me along, but if it were up to me, I'd stay inside and sleep. Relish, in the fact that High School would be done for."

"Yeah, me too." Tyler said, turning from me and to the reel in his hands.

I chuckled at how unnerved he had became. "Well, if a special someone were to ask me..." I said, trying to be as forward as possible. I strode around the edge of the pond as Tyler pulled the reel to follow him. I spoke before Tyler could, "Ty, you're doing it wrong. The kite is supposed to escort you."

"Jamie, stop walking." He suddenly said.

I stopped in my tracks and looked over at him expectantly.

"Would you go to Prom with me?" Tyler asked, a gleam of hope floating from eye to eye.

I smiled at his slight timidness. "Of course."

And through the midst of our overjoyed smiles, the sound of a small bell went off. I knew exactly what it was. And I knew exactly where it was coming from.

"Ty, it's ice cream, c'mon." I said, setting my kite down with a rock near the end of the reel to keep it from going. I pulled on Ty who had just done the same with his kite. I interwined our hands, which caused a silly grin to appear on my face. We stood behind a little girl with ashy brown hair, waiting on our turn.

It didn't take long when the man beside his ice cream vending bike spoke, "Good afternoon."

"Hi," I said a little too eagerly. I brought my pointer finger to my chin, scanning over the options. "Hm, can I get a strawberry shortcake ice cream."

"And a Spider- Man popsicle please," Tyler said, taking out his wallet and pulling out a five dollar bill. The man took the five and handed us the treats. Ty thanked the man before taking a hold of my hand and walking to our previous spots. Our kites slightly lifting and elevating from the soft breeze.

I took the wrapper off the cold shortcake and tossed it in a nearby trash can.

"How are you so perfect?" Tyler spoke as I sat down next to the kites.

I rolled my eyes and bit into the chilly, delicate ice cream. I felt the strawberry bliss run over my tastebuds in a slow pleasing way. "Mmm," I hummed. "This ice cream, it's the true perfection here."

Tyler sat down next to me. "Um, back to the whole college thing from before." He paused to take a glance at me. "You should come with..."

I looked over at him, a bit puzzled as to what he meant.

He took notice in this and then said, "I mean come to school with me, you know, a city over?"

I was bemused by the daft idea.

"Of course, you wouldn't have to make up your mind right now, and I'm sure it's a bit foolish cause of obvious reasons, but just think about it." Tyler quickly rejoined.

I'm sure it was obscure how long our relationship would last, therefore if I were to up and go with him, there was the possibility that we wouldn't last long and going would have been for nothing.

"The courses are insanely great," Tyler said, almost hearing my thoughts.

Instead of answering, I leaned over to Tyler and planted a kiss on his cold lips. "Thanks, I'll think about it."

We stayed silent, watching the pond shimmer from the reflected light.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to tell Tyler. A part of me was anticipating his and I's future and everything that would be from us. But, at the same time, I wanted to be in this exact moment. The moment where Tyler and I stood together and still, despite all the commotion of everyone else. More time with Tyler sounded beyond interesting, I was a bit dubious, but the avidity of starting new life chapters with Tyler was tugging strings on my heart.

I set down the popsicle stick and rested against Ty. His arm snaked to my waist, pulling me closer into him. It felt right, to be here. It sounded corny and felt it as well, but the truth was more pleasing than the disturbance of the tacky phrasing.

It was right, to be here with Tyler.
