As soon as Captain Falcon's ship had exited the research facility, the floating island exploded into the subspace matter. Everyone paused at the devastating sight before getting inside the ship.
Captain Falcon hurried everyone inside, and just when Snake was about to close the hatch, something crashed onto the flying machine. Captain Falcon kept flying the ship as he told Snakey to check outside. When Snake opened the hatch, Samus saw the monster over the mercenary's shoulder.
Without a word, she pushed Snake aside and jumped out. Snake tried to grab Samus by her wrist but swung his arm in failure.
"Samus! Get back inside!" His eyes widened as he saw the giant metal bird.
"Snake. That's not the real Ridley. That is metal Ridley. Like a replica." Otacon's voice was heard from Snake's codec as Snake stopped for a moment.
"Samus! Did you hear? That's not the real monster you want to hunt down. Get back inside and let me handle him! You're not fully recovered!" Snake cried out in an attempt to reach to Samus, who was completely zoned into the nothingness but the monster she saw through her helmet.
"I told you I don't take orders!" Samus shouted back, infuriated. She felt her blood rush thrroughout her body, boiling in anger.
The giant bird had kept flying up to avoid any attacks from Samus, then down to smash the Falcon ship. Samus aimed a missile at one of the eyes but unfortunately missed. Despite her amazing speed, she was weakened afterall. Samus turned around, enraged, when she saw another missle hit the eye she was aiming at.
"Mercenaries do it better." Snake was behind Samus. Samus was too outraged to decide if Snake was being sarcastic and provoked in response.
"This is my battle." The bounty hunter tried to sound as calm as she could, but not enough to hide her displeased eyes.
"Well you're not fightint it now. Get back inside. We need to fly away for now." Snake looked at the eyes that were filled with hatred.
"I'm not a coward like you."
When Samus realized that she had pushed her words a little too far, the metal bird banged on the ship once again, causing the two to lose balance. Snake caught Samus just in time when she was about to fall, but another blow from the metal Ridley made it pointless.
Without noticing the two fall, the Falcon ship continued to fly.
Shit, Snake thought to himself. He immediately grabbed Samus as he took out his flying disc, which was obviously not enough for two people with one of them wearing a heavy armor. When the two landed, or rather hit the land, Samus snapped as she got up on her feet in the middle of the forest.
"Why did you do that."
"Do what." Snake was a little irritated by now.
"Butt your head into people's business. You should've just left me alone and that wouldn't have happened." Snake couldn't tell if the bounty hunter was upset or angered still, but decided to ignore the question.
"Is that how you speak towards your life savor?" Samus was silenced as she looked away.
"I didn't need your help." Samud replied, quietly.
"Oh so that you would have been dead from all the fun and tortures with Ridley?" Snake snapped.
"I didn't say that!" Samus snapped back.
"Listen to me." Snake tried to calm down, arms crossed in front of him while he looked down to the ground.
"I said I don't take orders!" Samus shouted back as she turned around to walk away.
"No, I said listen goddamit." Snake grabbed her arm and held her tightly at the back of her head, keeping a close distance between them. Snake looked straight into her piercing blue eyes.
"Samus. Listen to me. Before we argue we need to get on Halberd because I know that almost all the brawlers are already there. We are soldiers, as you said. And I don't want you hurt from your stubbonness." Snake said as he tried to hide a tone of frustration in his voice. Samus looked away once again.
"No, look at me. I don't know what the hell I can do for you to be honest but I know that I don't want to lose you." Samus almost blushed at his words.
"The real problem is now what." Snake sighed.
"We both know where we need to go. Halberd. I'll communicate to my ship and fly it over here." Samus replied, almost whispering.
"Well looks like we have to wait till the morning for that." Snake looked up to the dark sky as he replied.
Silence took care of the rest of the conversation. Samus groaned as she finally sat down to rest, taking off her suit while Snake had disappeared from her sight. Samus got irritated that he had left without her, but who was she to be angry at him for all that he's done. But what had irritated her the most was that he was right all along. She knew that she dived herself, and unintentionally Snake, into troubles due to her rage and desperation.
"Stop looking so dull." Snake appeared with pieces of woods and branches in his arms.
"Why didn't you ask for help?" Samus ignored his somehow what request as she saw what was in his arms.
"I didn't need it. What you needed however, was to rest." Snake replied as he placed the branches to make a small bonfire.
As he lit up the fire, Samus sat down, gazing her eyes to the glowing, warm fire. Snake took out his cigarette and took a puff as he sighed.
"You smoke a lot don't you?" Samus asked, not facing him.
"Yeah. Kind of a relief." Snake replied shortly and coldly.
"It's bad for you."
"Obviously."
"Then why do you continue to smoke?" Samus kept pushing until he snapped.
"Why do you care?" Samus didn't respond.
"Because you care for me too." Samus spoke up after a moment of silence, amusing Snake.
Me? Caring for someone? Snake thought to himself. Snake was a soldier, who fought to win battles, not to protect someone, especially not someone like Samus. Snake knew that Samus was a skilled fighter and she has been fighting all her life.
"We're kind of similar, you know?" Snake said quietly as he took another puff.
"I know. Soldiers who fight all their lives." Samus replied while looking at the fire.
"Now we're fighting the same battle." Samus looked up to Snake, a little surprised at the realization he had brought.
Samus studied his face carefully. He always had his bandana on, and wore a look of tiredness, or possibly sadness, on his face. She wondered what he dedicates his whole life fighting for, but decided against throwing him questions as she thought he would return them. She looked away quickly as he noticed that she was staring at his face. Snake simply chuckled at what he saw, but questioned nothing.
"I miss Pikachu." Samus quietly spoke up, trying to change the subject.
"That yellow thing?" Snake smirked at the name he mentioned. Samus rolled her eyes in annoyance, but her blue eyes widened due to the next question.
"Did you miss me while I was gone?" Snake sat closer, next to Samus, still smirking.
"Tell me, stubborn bounty hutress. Did you miss me while I was gone?" Samus wanted to tell him to get lost, but instead she nodded, blushing and looked away. No man makes her blush, or is supposed to. Samus felt embarrassed at the thought. Snake chuckled again.
