~~~ Next morning
Joy was going to need to talk to Kali and Myrna this evening. Being she was pregnant with Hands' baby she needed to consider going to Folicia for the balance of her pregnancy. With Myrna offering to be her Liraque she really needed to talk to everyone. She knew Paloma and Char were probably going to Folicia when the ship went back. How long it was going to be before they left she wasn't sure since a trade agreement might take some time. She didn't know a transport tended to arrive each week. Chances were good they'd be going back in the next week.
She was standing near to her boss and waiting to see if she needed anything. When Isa took charge, she smiled slightly. Some of the former senior U.N. officials had been nothing but a pain in the ass. Kali was different since she treated Joy as if she was human and not just a human shaped drone. Hell, there'd been a time or two one of the other representatives had tried to order her to get things for them. Kali tromped on them without thinking.
She kept thinking about the pregnancy. She was pleased but also upset. The evening she'd spent with Hands had been extremely enjoyable, but this hadn't been expected. From what she understood Folician's didn't use any sort of condom's since they had nanite birth control. She hadn't realized being who he was Hands wouldn't use it. It was something they hadn't talked about or occurred to her to ask about.
"Morning everyone, from what I understand the meals went over well. I know the countries who hosted the dinner enjoyed having the Folician's there. Now we need to talk about the cultural exchange. We talked about it before you came down and some are for the exchange and others are against it. A number of representatives have questions for you Hands." She gave him a smile.
"You mentioned a call a week. How long would it be and how long does it take to get messages back and forth? If we're going to send our children to your world their parents would want to know." She'd talked to her government and it was one of the questions they wanted answered.
Hands was again leaning back against Savory, "The calls would be somewhat limited time wise. They are power intensive and even with the power source we use it takes a fair amount. Most of the calls would be about ten minutes or so unless there is an emergency. For e-mail it's sent once a day and would be received by the satellite and then forwarded to their parents. The same would be if they sent a message to their pups. We'd need to install a transmitter to connect to the satellite, but it would be small and not take up much room."
Another representative indicated they had a question, "If we did this, from what you indicated, they'd receive the implant you've talked about. What would happen when they came back? Would it be removed when they came back and how would it impact on them?"
He had to consider the question, "They would have to have the implant since so much of the Folician tech is controlled by it. With the implant it allows the buildings to do things like adjust seating, lighting, and similar things. Depending on what they choose they might keep the implants and bracelets." He held out his arms to show the bracelets, "They'd be getting the normal Folician bracelets. We have two main types of bracelets. Anyone aboard ship gets a ship board bracelet. It gives protection against space though they can be armored as you have seen. The planet-based suits are lighter and normally used as undergarments. For females it's shorts and a top which they use as a bra. For males it's a shirt and shorts normally."
"As far as the removal that's harder to say how it might impact on them. The reason I say that is because two of the main uses is as a cellphone and access to the internet. They have much more abilities but those are the most used. They also control the nanites in their blood to keep them healthy. As you've seen with the Russian and Chinese the nanites resolve issues like radiation or chemical poisoning."
