"Just hold my ass, Zayn, it's not that hard," Brenna said, looking up at him from over her shoulder.
My eyebrows shot up at the couple trying to get a banner hung up. A banner.
Brenna stood up on the chair, making Zayn's arms dart up to hold her.
"You got it?" He asked.
"I'm focused," she said, "shh."
He looked over at me and shot me an annoyed look.
I giggled.
She eventually got it hung up and shot us an accomplished smile. "Now help me down."
Zayn clapped her hands at her. "I've got you."
She looked over at me. "If you wanted to help him I'd be okay with that."
Zayn rolled his eyes. "Brenna, just jump down. I won't let you fall."
She bit down on her bottom lip before launching herself at him. He caught her gracefully, making her grin up at him.
"Now what did I tell you?"
She rolled her eyes. "You told me that you wouldn't let me fall."
"I told you that I wouldn't let you fall. Did I let you fall?"
She grinned. "Nope."
"Exactly."
Zayn made his way into the kitchen and Brenna rested her hands on her hips, sighing as she looked up at the banner. "Do you think it looks okay?"
"Yeah," I said, "Bren, how much did you pay for that?"
She shrugged. "A few hundred. Apparently getting a banner that says welcome home, Landon, isn't cheap."
I giggled. "It's cute that you're going all out."
"Yep. You've got everything for the dinner?"
I nodded. "Hey, can we talk?"
She looked over at me with raised eyebrows. "Yeah, of course."
We sat down on her couch and she turned to face me. "What's up?"
I bit down on my bottom lip. "So, you know how Derek has been trying desperately to get Santiago and I to get along?"
She nodded.
"Well, I might've invited him to the dinner."
Her eyebrows shot up.
"I know," I said, "it was dumb. I wasn't thinking, I just thought I should invite him to do something with Derek and I."
She shook her head. "It's not dumb. I'm just surprised he agreed to actually come. I mean, isn't he, what, forty now?"
"Yeah," I answered, "but it's funny, he really doesn't know how to age."
She looked over at me. "Just keep your distance."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"I don't want you getting involved in something again-"
"Brenna," I said, cutting her off with a small chuckle, "you have nothing to worry about."
She sighed. "You also said that five years ago."
"And I also wasn't engaged five years ago," I said.
"Yeah, but does that really mean anything?" She asked, "he was married-"
"Brenna," I said, cutting her off, "Santiago and I are not anywhere close to wanting eachother that way."
She sighed, cocking her head over. "Do you mean that?"
"Yes," I answered.
"Adora," she said, "I saw the way you freaked out at dinner that night. I know you saw him, and you stood up and tried to find him."
"Come on, Bren," I said, "that was the first time I'd seen him in five years."
She pursed her lips together. "I don't know, I just always heard that saying, it's who you look for in a crowded room."
I looked up at her finally and placed my tongue in my bottom lip.
"Derek's perfect," I said, "I have no reason to want anyone but him."
"And I'm not saying you do," she said, "I just think there's some unresolved feelings between the two of you."
"There's no feelings, let alone unresolved," I said, furrowing my brows together.
Brenna shrugged. "And you might be right," she said, "but don't lie to yourself. I watched you do it once, I'm not watching you do it again. Got it?"
And with that, she walked away from me.

I poured myself a cup of coffee, quietly tip-toeing over to the couch. I sat down and cradled my coffee close to me, turning on the TV.
The news channel was of course the first I saw. Derek was obsessed with keeping up.
My eyes fixated on the background, which happened to be Santiago's building.
King Corp.
I turned the channel, stopping on a random movie.
I heard footsteps and I looked over my shoulder, seeing Derek walking downstairs.
"Hey," he greeted, rubbing his tired eyes, "what are you doing up?"
He poured himself a cup of coffee and came into the living room, plopping down beside me.
I turned the volume down on the tv. "Just couldn't sleep."
"Why?" He asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
I pursed my lips together. "I don't really know. I think I'm stressed."
"Why?" He asked, slinging an arm around my shoulders.
I sighed and looked up at him. "I just have a lot to do," I said, biting down on my bottom lip, "cooking, cleaning, you know the drill."
"Well, you're amazing at multitasking, so I bet you'll be fine."
I just nodded.
"And you're a fantastic cook, and you work well under pressure, no matter what anyone says."
I just smiled. "Thank you for the put-ups."
He leaned down and pressed a kiss to my forehead.
I pursed my lips together again, looking back at him. "Do you think it was a mistake?"
"Do I think what was a mistake?" He asked, eyebrows furrowed down at me.
I turned to face him. "Inviting Santiago over for the dinner."
"No," he answered, shaking his head, "not at all. You know I want you and Santiago to get along."
"Why?" I asked, shaking my head up at him.
"Well," he said, "I hope to be spending a lot of time around him in the future."
I nodded.
"And you," he said, "I'm ready for you to be my wife, you know."
I smiled.
"I can't have anyone taking you from me," he said, "you're the best I'm ever going to get."
I reached up and pressed a kiss to his lips. "You're sweet. What do you want?"
He laughed, throwing his head back. "I don't want anything. I just want you, me," he trailed off, grabbing my hand.
I smiled down at our hands, but my smile faded slowly but surely.
"Wanna watch a movie?" He asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah," I said, shooting him a fake smile.
"I'll go get some snacks," he whispered, standing up.
I smiled as he walked off, but my smile quickly faded as I sighed.
My god, what is happening to you?

Santiago
I tuned out most of what one of my employees next to me was saying, flexing my jaw muscle as I walked through my building.
My employees didn't see me often.
So when they did, they always had more than enough to say.
"And we also have a meeting at 4:30 on Monday," he said, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"That's not going to work," I said, furrowing my eyebrows together.
He looked up at me. "W-why?"
I cocked an eyebrow up. "I have plans."
"Mr. King," he said, following me, "we have to have you there."
"We'll reschedule it," I snapped, turning around, "it's not that hard, is it?"
He shook his head rapidly. "No, Mr. King. I'll tell the office."
"Thank you," I whispered, my eyebrows shooting up as I walked out of my building.
I unlocked my car and slipped inside, slipping my keys in the ignition. My phone vibrated so I picked it up.
[From: Alessandra]
The boys are all packed up and ready to go
I cleared my throat and put my phone in my cup holder, speeding off towards Sandra and Mateo's house.
The drive wasn't long simply because I drove over the speed limit, as I always did.
I parked in the driveway and turned my car off, smiling when the boys opened the door.
"I can hear your car from a mile away," Josiah commented, smiling up at me.
"I can't wait for us to get matching ones," Freddy said, nudging his elbow.
"Cute," I said, rubbing the tops of their heads.
Alessandra rounded the corner, Rose in her arms.
"Hi," I sang, holding my hands out to Rose. She reached out to me and I grabbed her, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
"The boys told me some interesting news," Alessandra said, shooting me a smile as she grabbed their bags.
"Like what?" I asked, furrowed brows.
"Like someone has a date with a certain someone tomorrow."
I looked over at her, a dumbfounded look on my face. "It's not a date. Her fiancé is going to be there."
"Mm hmm," Alessandra said, smiling up at me.
"It really isn't a date, I swear," I said, chuckling, "she just invited me to dinner and I said I'd be there."
"So you're definitely going now?" Freddy asked.
"Yes, snitch," I said, making him and Josiah laugh.
"I hope it all goes well," Alessandra said, grabbing Rose from my arms, replacing her with the boys' bags.
"There's not much that could go wrong," I said, "it's just a dinner."
Alessandra smiled, nodding with her bottom lip jutted out. "Okay, Santiago."
I rolled my eyes. "We'll see you tomorrow."
"Alright," she said, "tell Uncle Santy bye!"
The baby cooed at me and I just smiled, pressing another kiss to her cheek. "Bye, Sandra."
"Bye, guys," she said, "have fun."
The boys ran outside and went ahead and settled their daily dispute about who was getting the front seat.
Josiah settled on the front seat and Freddy in the back, making me sigh and look over at them. "Fun weekend?"
"Yep. So you're definitely going on your date with Addy?" Josiah asked.
"It's not a date, Jo," I said, backing out of the driveway.
"It's a date," Freddy whispered, making Josiah smile and nod.
"It's not a date, and if you two would stop bringing it up, I would love that."
"Okay, dad, we won't bring up your date," Freddy said, holding in a laugh as he looked out the window.
"I'm not arguing about this again."
Josiah laughed. "We aren't either. But you know it's a date."
I just looked over at him with a sigh.
"Or at least you wish it was."
