Adora ( a continuation of last chapter )

"Adora!"

"Get the hell away from me, Brenna," I said, walking towards my car.

"Adora, stop," she said, "I'm trying to talk to you."

"And I'm trying to get away from you. I've had enough of your lectures for one day, thanks though."

I hadn't been so pissed in a really long time.

She caught up to me and grabbed my arm, making me turn around to face her.

"You blew that out of proportion in there," she said, "you know that, right?"

I rolled my eyes with a scoff, turning back around. "You followed me just to say that?"

"No," she said, "that's not why I followed you. I followed you because you need a fact check, or something. And if I have to be the person to give it to you, then so be it."

I sighed, shaking my head. "You said so yourself it was a lost cause."

"But I don't want it to be," she said, "Adora, come here. What the hell."

"Don't what the hell me," I said, "none of that would've started if you wouldn't have blown a damn gasket."

"None of that would've started if you would've left things be! If you would've stayed with Derek, if you would've left Santiago alone!"

"I didn't want to leave Santiago alone, Brenna!" I yelled, "why can't you get that through your head!"

"Why can't you get it through your head that everyone around you thinks the same thing about Santiago that I do?" She asked, furrowed brows, "Adora-"

"Maybe I don't care what everyone thinks!" I yelled, "maybe that doesn't matter at all to me."

"And you know what, that's good that you don't care what people think, but listen to your friends, Adds," she said, a hand on my arm.

I pulled my arm away from her hand, furrowed brows. "You're not my friend. I'll listen to Landon, and he's fine with it, ask him since you don't believe me."

"Adds, come on," she said, "you're blowing something out of the water that doesn't need to be."

"No I'm not!" I yelled, "you were on my back the first time I got invested in him, and you halfway ruined that for me, and I'm not letting you ruin this one for me. You're not walking away with a smile, telling yourself that you told me so."

"And what if I do, Adds?" She yelled, "Adora, I could tell you the exact same things I told you five years ago and you probably wouldn't listen, and you'd probably come back to my place crying. Again. I'm trying to help you and you're pushing me away."

"You're damn right I'm pushing you away," I said, "let me live my own damn life for once."

I turned around and began to walk away from her but I heard her laugh. "You loved Derek, and you know you did."

"You're right," I said, nodding, "I never said I didn't. I did, past tense."

"And you know you don't love Santiago, Adora," she said, "and he sure as hell doesn't love you."

"Let it go, Brenna!" I yelled, turning back around to face her, "for God's sake, let me be with someone who makes me happy! I do love him, Brenna! I've loved him since the day I started getting invested in him, and that was five years ago! Let me be!"

"He doesn't love you!" She screamed, "he cares about himself! He loves himself! He's always only loved himself, and you think he's going to change that around for you? I told you you were brainwashed. He isn't going to turn his whole life around for a woman half his age who has no clue what the hell she's doing."

I laughed, shaking my head as I cut my eyes at her. "Watch him."

Santiago

"Shh," I whispered to the boys as we tip toed inside, still dripping water.

"Let's go night swimming all the time!" Josiah said.

"I like the idea," Freddy said.

"Shh," I re-iterated, holding my finger up to my lips, "Adora might be-"

I froze when I saw Adora standing in the walkway, a confused smile on her face. Her eyes darted down to my uncovered abdomen, a towel wrapped around my hips.

"We went night swimming, Adds!" Freddy exclaimed, letting out a laugh.

She just smiled and they ran to her, giving her hugs.

"Isn't it a little cold for that?" She asked, laughing as she ran her fingers through their wet hair.

"Probably," Jo said, "hey, dad, do we get to stay home from school if we got hypothermia?"

"Good try, kiddo," I said, "but you didn't get hypothermia. Go upstairs and change into some warm clothes."

I watched as they ran upstairs, looking over at Adora. She smiled and sighed, placing her bag on the counter.

I slowly walked over to her, a grin on my face. Her hands darted out to press against my abdomen as soon as I made it to her, her arms wrapping around my middle.

"I hate people," she said, her cheek pressed against my chest.

"I do, too, so it's fine," I said, smiling as I pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

She sighed and looked up at me, a weak smile on her face.

"I think you and I just need a vacation," I suggested, pushing her hair away from her face.

She smiled and rested her chin against my chest. "I would love that."

"Let's go upstairs and get changed?"

She nodded and I watched as she walked over to the staircase, my jaw muscle flexing.

I soon followed her and jogged upstairs, leaning against the doorframe of my bedroom as I watched her slip on a cardigan over her nightgown.

I smiled when her eyes met mine, making her match my smile. She pulled her hair to one shoulder, walking towards the bed.

I walked in the bedroom and she sighed, pulling the covers back.

I rested my hands on her shoulders, pressing a kiss to her neck. "Are you okay?"

She nodded, looking over her shoulder at me. She rested her hand on my jawline, a small smile on her face.

"You're so beautiful," she whispered, making my arms wrap around her waist. I peppered more kisses to her neck before pulling away from her, making her plop down on the bed as I walked over to my closet.

I dropped my towel and discarded my soaked pool shorts, throwing them in the hamper. I changed into a pair of sweatpants, sitting down beside her.

"Want to tell me about it?" I asked.

She sighed and looked over at me, pursing her lips together. She shook her head and rested it on my shoulder, her hand on top of mine.

"You're still waiting on me, right?" I asked.

I knew how I felt about her. I'm sure she knew, too.

I was just afraid.

She looked up at me, her lips pulling into a smile as her fingertips grazed my jawline. "I'm still waiting on you."

Santiago plays this on the piano, and also just listen to it throughout this section

Adora

I rested my head in my hand as I listened to Santiago play the piano, my eyes closing slowly but surely.

"This is so relaxing," I said, pulling my bottom lip into my mouth.

His fingers continued to work the keys skillfully, my eyes continuing to watch his every move.

I hadn't looked at Santiago without so much admiration in my eyes since I'd seen him again. I knew I'd always admired him, but it grew with each day.

"You know," he said, "I played this by ear. When I first heard the song."

I smiled. "So talented."

"My dad taught me the rest of the pieces I know," he said, "I'm actually quite the nerd."

I smiled, my head still in my palm. "I think you're perfect."

He smiled and looked back at me, sighing as he stood up from his bench. I watched him walk over to me, pursing my lips together.

He leaned down and brushed his lips against mine. "I'm so happy you're around."

I wrapped an arm around his neck, our lips touching. I trailed my other hand down his arm, my eyes closing at the feeling of such a beautiful man on top of me.

"I'm going to go brush my teeth, okay?"

I nodded and watched as he pulled away from me, watching as he walked into the bathroom.

Loving someone and being in love with someone weren't quite the same- I vowed to myself that I wouldn't ever say it until I was absolutely sure I meant it, and I would only say it to one person.

And I was pretty bent on who I was going to say it to.

I got under the covers and sighed, folding my hands together under my face. I closed my eyes and smiled when I felt a warmth envelope me, and that warmth happened to be Santiago slipping in bed with me. He slung an arm over my waist, his other resting above my head.

He sighed against my skin and I felt his thumb stroking my hip, covered by the material of the nightgown I had on.

"Can I hold your hand?"

I furrowed my brows together with a smile and looked over my shoulder at him. "What?"

He smiled, grabbing my hand. "Can I hold your hand?"

For some reason I felt tears pricking at my eyes, my eyebrows still in a deep furrow. "Of course."

"Just because, can I kiss you, I like your laugh, don't cry, is this okay, I think you're beautiful, I'll do it for you," he said, and I was confused at the words he was spitting off, "do you know what all of those sentences mean?"

I shook my head, looking over my shoulder at him. "What do they mean?"

He smiled, pressing a kiss to my head. "You'll understand later."

I just smiled and closed my eyes as soon as I felt his fingers toying in my hair, the feeling of his warm skin against mine nearly sending me to sleep.

"You're so warm," I whispered, pulling our hands up to my mouth. I pressed kisses to his skin, holding it next to my face.

"I think you sleep better when every inch of us is touching," he whispered.

I nodded. "I do."

"I do, too," he said, and I could feel his long eyelashes brush against my cheek as he closed his eyes.

"Good night, Santiago," I whispered, pressing yet another kiss to the back of his hand.

"Good night," he answered, "wake me if you need anything."

I pursed my lips together and turned off my lamp, letting a single tear drop from my eye as I felt my love for Santiago King grow into an even bigger love than it already was.
