Cordelia's p.o.v
It's been 3 years since I last saw my family. For some reason they wouldn't allow me to have visitors even though I'm not in solitary lockup. Which means that I should be allowed to have visitors but it's unfair to even be put in lockup because I didn't even commit a crime. I was locked up simply because I was my mother's second child, thankfully she didn't get floated for it.
Anyway, you could say that I was going a little crazy in here as my only view of life outside this cell, was the stars that were visible from the giant window at the top of it. Also despite not being privileged, my room had a decent bed and its own bathroom. I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't able to shower when I wanted too.
It seems these days all I can do is hope to see my brother soon while drawing in the book he gave me three years ago. It's the only this I have from him so I like to keep it close by for reassurance. Drawing kept me sane in this metal hell hole. Sometimes I even drew on the cells walls when I needed a bigger space.
Today had been like every other one, with me chilling on my bed gazing out of the window. It was nice and quite which was nice, but unfortunately all nice things seem to end rather quickly. Which was the case for me when my silence was disturbed by a knock on my cell door and in walked my guard.
"Prisoner 99 please stand," said the guard as she entered my cell with a boy beside her. I did as instructed because I didn't want to be zapped with their shock sticks. It fucking hurts, if you wanted to know.
"Prisoner 99 this is your cell mate. I know it's not supposed to work like this as your room is a single, but all the male cells are full and there is no room for him," she says before leaving me with the boy.
It's weird seeing another person my age standing before me. Besides the guards, he's the only outside person I've seen in 3 years. I take a few seconds to note his appearance. He's about my height with shaggy brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. By the looks of him, I'd say he was from Mecha station.
After a few minutes of us standing in silence he begins to walk around the small cell. Taking in the sight of my drawings as well as gazing through the window. "So, how long have you been here?" He asks after his little wander.
My legs were getting sore from just standing there so I walked over to my bed "Three years," I say as I sat down.
I was very bad at human communication and interaction which definitely made this conversation even more awkward. If Jasper were here then he'd laugh at my awkwardness while ruffling my long brown hair. Oh how I wish I wasn't kept here alone for 3 years.
"What did you do?" he asks looking back at my pictures on the walls.
I sighed "I was born," then picked up my sketchbook and closed it.
"Oh that's harsh. Did your mom get floated?" He questioned with a curious look.
"No, she only had one birth like the rules state but she had twins. Luckily my brother Jasper is ok, he was born first. Id rather it be me than him up in here," I say looking at the mysterious boy in front of me. I barely knew him yet he wanted to know so much about me. Nobody has been curious about me, except maybe John. But he's dead to me now.
I decided it was my turn to ask questions "What did you do to get in here?" I ask with a curious look.
He smirked "I wasted 3 months oxygen on an illegal spacewalk," after he said that I was surprised that they didn't float him right then and there. Even if he is a minor, the council are very strict on preserving oxygen.
"Oh so you're the mysterious space-walker I keep hearing about," I say setting my sketch book down as he looks at me.
"How did you.." he began but I cut him off.
"This is prison dude, you hear things," I say with a laugh. You'd be surprised about the things and rumors you hear running through this place. Some of the kids here are in for murder but there's nothing the council can do because of our laws. Minors can't get floated and have to right to be reviewed at 18, though I doubt murders get off the hook.
"My name's Finn," he says sitting beside me on the bed.
"Cordelia," I say looking out the window in the ceiling. From my cell there's a perfect view of the Orion constellation which is beautiful.
"That's a beautiful name," he says with a smile.
"Yeah, my mom thought so too," I say with a nod. I really missed my mom, I don't even know if she's alright. I hope she didn't blame herself for me coming here, because it wasn't. It was that monsters fault.
"Well bathrooms in there, if you need it," I say pointing to where the bathroom is.
Finn looks at me weirdly "Before you ask, no I'm not one of the privileged," I say not even looking up.
"What station are you from?" he asks. I looked up at him.
"Farm station you?"
He looks at me "I don't like to talk about the station I come from, makes me think about someone I left behind," he says with a frown.
"Let me guess, you broke up with your girlfriend because you knew you'd be coming to the skybox and wouldn't be able to see her again," I say and he looks at me with an impressed look.
"How could you possibly know that?" he says with a scared look.
"One I'm really good at reading people, even if I haven't reacted with or seen many in my years of being here and two it's what I would've done if I had a boyfriend before coming in here. Alas I was 14 when I got put in here so I couldn't really go through with that plan," I say and he nods.
For awhile he just looks at me "What are you doing?" I say looking up at him.
He gives me a smile and plainly says "I'm trying to figure you out Cordelia,"
Chapter 1 is done, I hope you like it and thanks for reading.
