JJ's POV
Everything's a blur as I carry Simon's almost completely motionless body outside to the paramedics, blood covering my clothes and hands.Time moves in slow motion whilst I help lay Simon on a gurney, an oxygen mask immediately being put around his head.
"What's his name?" One of the paramedics asks as I walk with them over to the ambulance.
"Simon Minter." I say quickly, glad to see the man didn't have an unusual reaction to his name.
Simon slowly starts to regain consciousness as he's put into the back of the ambulance, but I'm right by his side.
He starts to mumble incoherent things as his eyes flicker around the walls of the car, his breathing starting to speed up as he starts to look panicked.
"Simon? Do you remember what happened?" The man asks, Simon looking at him- his big blue eyes filled with fear.
He quickly shakes his head, saying something back to the man but neither of us understanding what he had said.
He takes a breath before attempting to speak again. "J..." He wheezes out, not saying my full name, but I understood.
Quickly I reach my hand out to hold his, causing him to turn his head and look at me.
A look of relief spreads across his face as he sees me- letting his head relax back onto the thin mattress, his hand weakly squeezing mine once.
"Stay." He mutters and I nod quickly, watching as his eyes flutter shut yet again- the monitor they had hooked him up next to me starting to beep rapidly.
I quickly move out of another man's way as they rush over to him, my heart starting to beat rapidly out of fear as they start to do compressions on his chest.
Before I realise it we're at the hospital and the back doors of the ambulance are swung open- two distraught looking doctors waiting on the other side of them.
As soon as I see Simon being rushed out I'm immediately taken back to the night my father got shot.
Flashback
JJ holds his Spiderman action figure tightly in his hand as he watches his dad and another man argue.
He thought nothing of it at the moment, but as soon as he heard a gunshot and the sound of a body falling to the floor, he was petrified.
"Hey, little buddy." The man kneels down next to JJ, resting his hand on his shoulder as he sets his gun back in his holster.
"Your dad's gonna be just fine, okay? He's just taking a little nap- don't be scared." The man says before standing up again- looking around out of paranoia before bolting out the front door.
JJ stumbles slightly as he walks into the kitchen where his father lay, his face emotionless as he steps into the pool of blood.
Without really thinking about it he grabs the house phone that sat on the wall, dialling the police.
"My dad was shot." His small voice says into the phone before he hangs up- not bothering to tell their address or any other details since he was only young and had no idea anyway.
