9 March 2011

The night sky twinkled with bright stars seeming to pulse along to the tune of the crickets. Jimin was walking briskly at first, but the full moon above him caught his attention and he slowed to admire it. His house wasn't too far, but the peaceful sky above contrasted the harsh city around him so much that he couldn't look away.

It was Yoongi's birthday and Jimin was on his way home after spending the day with him. The older had graduated the previous month while poor Jimin still had two years. But Yoongi promised that he would wait for him. He would stay in Busan until he graduated so they could go to Seoul together.

Jimin had to lie to his parents about his whereabouts. He said that he was going to a hagwon, an afterschool study hall, but he was definitely not studying. His parents did not like Yoongi. They thought that his quiet and stoic demeanor was rude and disrespectful. Jimin had been keeping their friendship a secret for years.

He would have stayed longer, but Yoongi said that his parents were going to be home soon and Jimin had to leave. Yoongi never let Jimin around his parents—especially his dad. The younger knew that his father was a violent man. Yoongi never said anything, but it was apparent in the black eyes and split lips he frequently showed up to school with.

Jimin's parents were at an important company dinner that night, as his father was an important figure in Busan's auto industry. The company dinners usually went all night while his father closed business deals, leaving Jimin all by himself.

He hated being alone. So when he finally tore his gaze away from the stars and hurried home, he texted Yoongi right away. It was a casual text to get a conversation going, but the older never responded. So Jimin turned on the sixty-five inch TV in his living room and waited. Then he waited some more. A whole two hours of him looking at his phone every few minutes while an increasing sense of anxiety gnawed at him went by.

Then there was a banging on his door. It startled Jimin, making him jump slightly. But he recovered quickly and hurried to the front door. He had to stand on his tippy toes to see through the peephole. Yoongi was standing outside, continuously looking over his back and tapping his foot on the ground as he waited for Jimin to open the door.

The younger quickly unlocked it and opened the slab of wood. "Hyung—"

"Sup, fucker," he said in a rushed manner and pushed past the shorter male.

"Oh," Jimin sighed while closing the door. "Hey, Agust."

Agust turned around to face him with wide eyes. "Yoongi's gotta stay with you for a few days, man." That's when Jimin noticed the blood on his face and clothes. It was all over his shirt, dripping from his wounded knuckles, his nose, his lips, even from his eyelid that was accompanied by red bruising around the area.

"Oh my God—what the hell happened?" Jimin squeaked, rushing to examine him.

He let the boy touch his face lightly. "His dad came home. Started beating on him. So I fought back. Yoongi would never even think of hitting his dad, but he's lucky to have me around."

Jimin pressed his lips together. Yoongi was going to freak when he came back. "My parents are going to be home tomorrow. They can't know you're here."

"Don't worry, Chim. We'll be gone as quickly as possible."

The younger furrowed his eyebrows, eyes meeting his. "Gone?" he asked quietly.

"Yoongi can't stay here, dude." He pointed at himself angrily. "Look at Yoongi's face! He's gonna die if he doesn't leave."

"But...where will you go?"

"Seoul."

Jimin's heart clenched, forcing a choked breath. "What? No! You can't leave me!"

"He's already been accepted, Chim."

Yoongi was leaving him? Jimin didn't want to believe it. His chest ached. His eyes burned. He wanted to hold onto him and make him stay. If Yoongi left, who would he have? He needed Yoongi so much. He loved him so much. If he wasn't there to keep his personalities in check and take care of him, then what would happen? He'd be thrown in the looney bin.

And he thought Jimin would just stand by while he left to be taken advantage of in a city such as Seoul?

No fucking way.

Jimin wouldn't let it happen.
