I woke up around 4 A.M to the soft sound of tapping on my window. Who the heck could that be? And this early in the morning too? As I finally gathered enough courage to look and see, I peeked through the blinds and saw a pair of bright, blue eyes looking right back at me. I shrieked and jumped back, knocking my lamp over and shattering glass everywhere. Oh god.
"Kay! It's me!" Jake's familiar voice called out, from behind my window. What could he possibly want this early in the morning? As I lifted my self off of the carpet, I started toward my bedroom door so I could walk downstairs and let him in.
However, being the clumsy person I am, I stepped on a piece of sharp glass that had shattered to the floor only minutes ago. "Ouch!" I winced as blood trickled from the bottom of my left foot, and onto the floor. Leaving a bloody puddle in the middle of my carpet.
I walked down to the front door, leaving a bloody one footed trail every step I made. I unlocked the door, and Jake was standing there with a guilty, wide-eyed expression on his face. He was obviously trying to apologize with his eyes. Obviously it isn't working.
"Jake, what do you want? Do you even know how early it is? You scared the crap out of me, and made me cut my foot open!" I whined in his face, causing him to back up a bit.
"Oh crap Kay, sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you." He explained, apologetically.
"Well, wouldn't you be scared if you looked through your window and saw two eyes staring right back at you?" I said with a hateful expression on my face. "You idiot! Why couldn't you have just went and got the key underneath the flower-pot and let yourself in?" He seriously needs to figure out what his brain is for. To THINK.
"I'm really sorry Kayla. I thought I would have scared you even more if I just showed up in your room, so that's why I went to the window." He apologized. has he never heard of knocking on the door? I gave him a dark, death glare as I headed to the bathroom to clean my foot up and to look for a Band-Aid. Thankfully, the glass didn't cut deep enough to cause a trip to the hospital for stitches. It sure hurt though.
"So anyway, what is the reason you came here and almost gave me a heart attack?" I questioned, somewhat seriously. He stared at me for what felt like forever, not saying anything at all. "Earth to Jake! C'mon dude just tell me already; quit being so dramatic!" I shouted, waving my hand in front of his face. He paused a few more seconds before finally telling me the reason he was here.
"Well you see, when I got back to my place I wasn't really sleepy, so I decided to flip on the TV and watch the news."
"Since when do you watch the news?" I practically burst out laughing. I obviously wasn't taking this to seriously.
"Shut up, I'm trying to tell you something important!" He stared at me intently, before continuing his story. "Okay so, all of a sudden the woman started talking about a murder that had happened around 11 P.M last night in Shrewsberry." He paused and looked me directly in the eyes.
"Isn't that close to where I live?" I questioned, trying to hide the frightened expression making its way onto my face.
"Yeah, and the victim was a twenty year old female living by herself. They said she had been tied up and brutally beaten before the killing actually happened." Jake replied.
I gasped. "So that's the reason you showed up at my house at 4 A.M?" I looked at him, with a puzzled expression replacing the frightened one on my pale face.
"No Kay, I'm not finished yet. The reason I'm here, is because a friend of the victim said that the woman had called her and told her about the many times she had seen a guy peering at her through her window. The friend said she tried to get her to contact the police, but the woman just ignored her. Five days later she gets murdered."
I set there with my mouth gaped open in shock. Tears started springing into my eyes, threatening to spill over. "So do you think t-that it's the same g-guy that has b-been looking through m-my window?" I asked, stuttering in fear.
"I don't know Kay, but just to be safe, I've decided I'm going to stay with you from now on incase it happens again." He stated firmly. I smiled a bit as Jake reached in and gave me a reassuring hug.
"Thanks Jake." I whispered softly into his left ear, as I wiped away a tear that had escaped, and slid down my right cheek.
"You better be glad that I love you." He responded.
"Ha-ha, very funny," I said with sarcasm as I punched him hard in the arm.
"Ouch, what did you do that for?" He winced, causing me to laugh.
"Well, we better get some rest now. I'm so tired. I don't want you worrying about anything anymore Kay. You will be fine. Trust me." Jake said, looking deep into my eyes.
"I sure hope so." I replied, letting out a loud sigh, but Jake was already passed out on the couch.
I went to my room and grabbed an extra blanket. I whispered 'sweet dreams' to him as I covered him up. I was so thankful to have him in my life.
I trudged back to my warm bed and slipped under the soft covers trying to fall asleep. However, I had no such luck because I tossed and turned, and worried myself until finally after an hour later, I dozed off.
