fear dripping from my fingertips
clasped in my hand
standing before the crowd
at the top of the mountain
before the drop of the rollercoaster
I brace myself on what the inevitable holds
fearless with the thought of
"anything is better than death"
growing up in a time where
people are dying and not being recognized
for who they are and where they come from.
I can climb the highest mountain,
swim to the deepest depths,
but I can't fathom the thought of
being told I should die for who I am.
Go to a land where there's a chance for a new life?
Little known, be knocked down
for the accent that passes through my lips.
humans are humans.
we steal, we take.
Through it all, we give.
We have the opportunity to spread
love that is so needed here
in the land of whispers over the yells
in the land of law over the tears
extend my arms and brace
the storm already barreling towards.
speak, spread, stand.
For those who desperately cannot.
