Chapter 9~ Newcomer
(Serena's POV)
"Serena! Let's go. Sky needs all of us to meet her now."
"Fine." I followed Damien and Isabelle to the center of the camp where everyone else was already gathered around one point. I made my way to the front to stand beside Sky and was surprised by what I saw.
"Sky, who is this?" She looked at me briefly before turning back to the guy with dark brown hair and light green eyes.
"This is the newest addition to our group, Dustin, he just got here. Nearly gave Isabelle a heart attack." Isabelle appeared on the other side of me giving Sky a death glare.
"In my defense, normal people including vampires, don't just come running up to someone from behind before nearly trampling them." She gave Sky one last glare before her and Damien left.
"Well, most normal people would get out of the way instead of just standing there."
"Who are you?" Dustin looked up and gave Sky an annoyed glare.
"I've already told you." She shook her head and Dustin looked to me for help. I just shrugged my shoulders as my gaze moved over to Sky.
"No, I mean who are you as a person. I want to know more than just your name." Dustin looked uncomfortable as he lowered his gaze.
"Sky, I think we should let him get comfortable here before we ask him any personal questions." I moved beside and started moving him back away from Sky and everyone else.
"Thanks. I don't think she likes me very much." I laughed.
"It's not that she doesn't like you, Dustin, it's just that she doesn't exactly trust you." He stopped walking as we got to the edge of the camp.
"So, who are you?"
"I'm Serena." He shook his head.
"Why did you come here, Dustin? I think you could at least tell us that." His eyes narrowed as he took a dangerous step closer to me.
"That's none of your concern."
"Actually, I believe it is. Especially since no one knows who you are or where you came from. For all we know you could have been sent here by someone and you keeping secrets like this isn't helping your case right now." He turned away from me as if he was going to take off and disappear.
"If someone had sent me here, don't you think I would have made it a little less obvious that I was here? I mean really, if you're on a secret mission isn't your top priority not getting caught by the enemy? I think Sky just needs to loosen up a bit." He turned back to face me as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"It's not her fault. Someone came here a couple of days ago and killed her mate. I think it's only fitting that she's skeptical of anyone who comes here." His eyes widened before he regained his composure.
"You know there are rumors going around the other vampire groups. Talk about the return of the Firsts. If you've already heard the rumors then you know that apparently Marcus and Sabrina have taken the castle of the Head Vampires and their children. Not only that but supposedly they have this plan to build up an army and some say they've already got hundreds of vampires to join them. As if that wasn't enough, they claim to have this "secret weapon". A vampire that has had the blood of the Firsts injected into him, giving him all their powers combined plus the ones he already had. He's like their little puppet and they're the puppet masters. He does whatever they say. Some say they're using some kind of mind control on him." Dustin had made himself comfortable on a fallen tree while he was telling his little story. I couldn't help but think of Christian. He was the only one we left behind. If these rumors are true and if it is Christian that they've labeled as their "secret weapon" then that would mean not only has Christian changed but he's a completely different Christian.
"Dustin, do you know who they have as their "secret weapon"? Like a name?"
"Yeah, a lot of people are saying it's some guy named Christian. Apparently, Dracula went to the guy's house and tried to take him from his parents to become his next "child". It's said that Dracula wanted Christian because he had some kind of power. Nobody knows much about that though, but at the time Christian was dying. It was some kind of new disease. The doctors claimed that they had never seen anything like it. The weird thing is, Christian was the only person to ever have the disease. Anyway, Dracula had his children grab Christian's mom and dad while Demetri started a fire at their feet. Dracula was holding Christian in place, forcing him to watch until there was nothing left of his parents but ashes." I took a step back away from Dustin as I leaned back onto a tree.
"Dracula, did he just turn Christian? After his parents died?" Dustin nodded.
"Yeah, from what I've heard as soon as Christian was turned he was cured. He wasn't sick anymore, but he wasn't like the others either."
"What do you mean, not like the others?"
"Well, every newborn vampire has to feed. It's like the first thing they have to do. Christian didn't though, a few people say that after he was turned he didn't feed for nearly a month. By then any other vampire would have collapsed from starvation. Eventually, they would have slowly, but surely died. Christian didn't though, no one could figure out why. He was the first vampire to that and the last too. Of course, there were other reasons for why he was different but no one could ever come up with any specifics." When Christian turned me it was weeks before I fed. Jonathan had forced me to after the incident. Did I get that from Christian? And if I did, what else could I have gotten from him?
"Wait, Dustin, how do you know all of this?" He shifted around uncomfortably.
"Well, I used to be a guard at the castle until I got out of it. I learned the rest from the guys in my clan. Well, what used to be my clan." I pushed myself off the tree I was leaning on and sat beside Dustin on the fallen tree.
"What do you mean?" His eyes hardened as his hands formed tight fists.
"They had their little weapon wipe out my clan. Christian killed everyone or so he thought. Of course, his masters were there too, but he did it, I saw him too. His eyes were red and he was so fast. Faster than any vampire I've ever seen." Red eyes? That can't be right.
"Hey Serena? Dustin? Sky said its time to come on back. It's nearly curfew." I nodded before standing. Dustin slowly stood beside me as I waved Lucius to go on.
Me and Dustin walked back to camp slowly. There was a silence lingering between the two of us. I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye. Seems like there's more to him than he's letting on. As me and Dustin parted ways I ran into Sky. I kept it quick and only told her about what happened to Dustin's clan. I didn't bother hanging around so I just headed to my room.
