Chapter 2~ One of the Firsts

(Serena's POV)

"What do you mean, a First?' Jonathan and Damien had been talking for awhile now, about nothing in particular, when they mentioned that there was a First in our group.

"One of the very first vampires is here with us and he has something important to say." Jonathan stepped to the side and Lucius, one of the guys who had helped trained me, stepped forward.

"By important Jonathan means urgent. With only a minimum of days, or a maximum of only a few weeks, it's vitally important that everyone knows exactly what is waiting for us there. That's why this meeting has been called to order." Lucius met my gaze and he looked away with a look in his eyes that I didn't like.

"So, Lucius, what are we going up against?" Adrian stepped up beside me and looked at me reassuringly, he must have seen the look Lucius had given me.

"Well, you're not going to like it. We're not going up against Dracula, Verona, and Demetri anymore. As you all probably know there were three of us Firsts. We were all created in this order: me, Sabrina, and Marcus."

"I thought we were here for a meeting, Jonathan, not a damn history lesson." Lucas, or Pucas as the girls called him, stepped up to Lucius.

"Now, now, Pucas leave him alone and let him finish. It's not like you're going to actually do anything to him anyway." Karmin pulled him back into his place and apologized to Lucius for the interruption.

"Ok, Pucas, the reason for the meeting is this: Marcus and Sabrina have taken the castle."

"But Marcus was killed. How could it be him?" Isabelle had a point. It's said that one of my ancestors had killed him long ago. If Marcus was still alive then who knows what he is capable of. I've known Lucius since we arrived here, and I still don't know what all of his powers are.

"That's just the thing though, being a First means that we have powers that others of our kind could never even imagine and one of those powers is the ability to mask others as ourselves. You see, only one of us ever mastered that power, and that was Marcus." Lucius stopped when he heard something in the distance.

"It's a person and they're headed this way. Get ready, we may have to resort to fighting." Adrian stepped in front of me with Aaron coming up on my other side. Mia and Lisa were standing behind me preparing for the worst.

Then everything stopped. Everyone stood perfectly still, waiting, but nothing happened. Then out of the corner of my eye I noticed something dart out of the woods. Before I could move to get a better look at it, I heard a scream, and I watched as Jonathan fell to his knees. I caught a glimpse of black hair moving quickly through the forest, until it stopped and turned around as if knew I was looking at him. It was only for a second, but in that second I saw the one thing that I thought I was never going to see again. I would recognize those blue eyes anywhere. I couldn't let him get away. I'd lost him once, but I wasn't going to lose him this time.
