Ch 8

“Wow…I had no idea…” A voice said behind me.

   I slowly turned around to see Jinxx standing near the stairway of the basement. My gift was supposed to be a secret! Why the fuck did I come down here in the first place? Oh well, someone was bound to find out.

“I didn’t know you could sing so beautifully!” he said in awe.

“Uh, yeah…I guess. It’s supposed to be a secret.” I replied quietly.

“Why would you wanna keep something like this a secret?” he gawked, coming to sit next to me.

“I-I just don’t like attention or getting put on the spot. Singing just helps get me through tough times.” I say, fiddling with my hands.

“Well, I think it’s a good thing. Think of what you could make of yourself. You could help others, too.” Jinxx replied, putting an arm over my shoulder.

“I don’t know, Jinxx. I don’t think I’m cut out to make it. I wanna prove my conscience wrong, but-“

“But what, exactly?” Jinxx said, cutting me off.

“I’m just afraid. I have stage fright, and I’m scared I’ll fail and no one will like me. I don’t know if I’m cut out for this.” I rambled.

“You have nothing to be afraid of. Everyone gets scared or nervous about something. You just have to go for it. Take a chance; even if you do fail, which you probably won’t, at least you gave it a shot. You should always try again if you don’t succeed the first time. That’s what chasing a dream is about.” He assured.

“You really think I can do it?” I asked, smiling.

“I know you can! Please tell me you’re trying out for our contest.” He said worriedly.

“I thought about it. It would be so cool to tour with you guys and do guest vocals on a few songs!” I exclaimed. “In front of thousands of people watching you…” I added in and groaned.

“Don’t think like that. You’re making it harder on yourself.” He laughs.

“Plus, my sister is trying out. God forbid, the girl can’t really sing.” I sighed.

“Well, we’ll just have to find out ourselves. We don’t know right off the back. Don’t worry about your sister, or anyone else. Just worry about you. You can do this, Nina.” Jinxx said.

“Thanks, Jinxx. I really needed to hear this.” I said, hugging him.

“That’s what I do.” He says.

“That’s why you guys are my favorite band.” I laugh. He hugged me tighter.

   I put Ashley’s bass back and we both go back upstairs to the living room. The guys and Mia were watching Sweeney Todd. Go figure.

“Hey, where were you two?” Andy asked.

“In the basement. I wanted to see where you guys practice.” I lied. Jinxx smirked and sat on the couch next to CC.

“Where’s Mads and Sammi?” Mia asks.

“Sammi left for a band thing, and Maddie had to work.” I replied. Everyone nodded.

“Guess we better get home. We have like NO clothes and we need showers.” Mia sighed.

“Well this sucks. Another good night has come to an end.” I fake cry.

   Everyone laughs and Ashley shakes his head. I go over to the recliner and sit on his lap. He smiles and kisses me.

“What did I say about getting a room?” Andy joked.
