Dil ne dil se bas yehi kaha hai,
Saansen bhi ab tere naam ki qaid mein hain.

(The heart whispered to the heart, O beloved,
Even my breaths are now captive to your name.)

The days passed slowly, and after a week and a half of daily conversations, the phone finally fell silent.

He didn't call.

If she had known that mentioning it to Robert Smith would make him stop, she would have done it much sooner. But she didn't want to be a tattletale, like a child who can't keep a secret.

Two weeks whisked by in the blink of an eye, and Shafaq managed to return home on a Friday once again, only to be back by Sunday around 9 pm.

To her delight, she discovered that Justin still hadn't returned, causing her happiness to soar. This period was the most tranquil she had experienced in her life.

However, her relief was short-lived. The call eventually came. She took a deep, steadying breath before bringing the phone to her ear.

"Hi," he said.

'How did he know I have put the receiver to my ear?' she wondered.

"What can I do for you?" she replied in a flat tone.

"How have you been?"

"Excellent."

"That's good to hear."

"Why did you call?"

"Because I can."

"Didn't Mr. Robert Smith tell you not to contact me?"

"Why would Grandpa say that?"

"Because I asked him to."

Justin burst into laughter, continuing for what felt like an eternity, as if he couldn't believe what she'd done.

"Did you really think that would work? Do you think I'm a child?"

Shafaq's face flushed with embarrassment. 'What was I thinking?' she chastised herself.

"You didn't call for a few days. I thought it actually worked."

"Were you waiting for my call?"

"That's expecting too much."

"I was just busy," he explained, offering his excuse for the silence.

"When are you going to be busy again?"
