You will never see a Night Fury, but they are always there. They are magnificent. To kill one would make any man the greatest viking to ever live. It's the closest dragon species to extinction. Some say there is only one left, since it seems like only one comes and goes.
If I kill a Night Fury, I will be next in line to be a chief. The first female chief of Berk, and I'll make sure I won't be the last. It might be cheating since I'm technically not Hiccup's real sister, but I am older than him. I call our dad Dad, everybody thinks of me as his daughter.
I don't see why it shouldn't count.
"Hiccup, where are you going!?"
Hiccup? Oh no, he's running off with his bola machine.
"Come back here!"
"Hiccup, get back inside!" I sprint after him, abandoning my bucket on the floor for it to be blown to pieces or trip somebody over. I could honestly care less right now.
"Yeah, I know! Be right back!" Hiccup glances over his shoulder at me and smiles.
The little shi—
I chase him to an empty hill, where he sets up his silly invention and points it at the starry sky. It is a beautiful view but I know Dad would murder us if he found us here instead of indoors.
"Hiccup—" He shushes me. "Step away from the bola thing." He shushes me again but harsher. "Who do you think you are?"
He intensely scans the dark sky, waiting for something to appear. "Give me something to shoot at, give me something to shoot at."
I spot a figure blotting out the stars as it zooms through the sky effortlessly. There is only one dragon species with that level of speed. The whistling noise is furthering my sureness on what the dragon is. As it blows up a tower, and the explosion illuminates its small, black body and huge wings.
The Night Fury.
My thoughts are interrupted by Hiccup crashing into me and knocking us both. We both watch the defeated cries of the Night Fury as it crashes into the forest, one other dragon being taken down by surprise and not being able to move out of the way in enough time to avoid it.
"Oh, I hit it." Hiccup jumps to his feet in a celebration. "Yes! I hit it!"
"I can't believe you shot down a Night Fury," I say more to myself.
He took my one chance at becoming chief. My one goal before I died, and he ripped it away from me. It's over.
A Monstrous Nightmare climbs up onto the ledge we're on and crushes Hiccup's bola launcher.
I sigh and shake my head in defeat. "Except for you." It roars in our faces, so Hiccup pulls me to my feet and we run away as fast as we can, screaming. The Nightmare chases us down the hill and into the village. This isn't going to end well at all.
We run behind a torch pole and hide, just as flames reach around the corner. We look behind it from the same side. A broad figure jumps towards us out of nowhere and takes down the beast. The Nightmare tries to breathe fire, but coughs up only a few drops of flaming liquid instead, having exhausted its shots.
"You're all out." My hero saved us, like he always has done. With very little effort, the dragon is defeated and flees in terror.
The torch pole me and Hiccup are hiding behind collapses, the torch tumbles down into the village, leaving ruins in its wake.
