Chapter Ten
Faces of teh past, faces of you
“Do you know how difficult it is to recover without you by my side?”
I just stared at her with questioning eyes, almost pleading. I was trying to get back to my senses but I could not resist thinking that this was just a dream. The person that I did not expect that I would see again was here, right in front of me, smiling like nothing really happened.
“Maisen, I’m already here,” she reached for my hand and squeezed it. “Aren’t you happy?”
“Sirri,” I called for her, getting my hand from hers. “Let’s stop this.”
She was obviously damn-stricken of what I said, but she posed a fake smile, like everything could still be fixed. “Maisen, what are you saying?”
“Didn’t you hear me? I said let’s stop this! Ah… no. You stop this.”
“Why? Why should I stop? Didn’t you tell me before that you love me? You told me that you will change for me, Maisen. And I believed that. I know, that time, I was the only one you loved. I know for the first time, you learned how to love, Maisen. Because of me.” She tried to reach for my hand again but I managed to pull it away from her hold.
I let out a frustrated sigh. “Sirri… I don’t love you. I did not love you. And I will never ever love you. So please stop this. You can’t get anything from me.”
“I already fixed everything!” She said, her eyes widened with every drop of heavy breath she exhaled. “My Dad will call your father. We’re getting married, Maisen. Soon you will marry me just like what you promised before.”
“Marry?” I laughed mockingly. “Have you really gone crazy? I thought you were just frustrated that’s why you slashed you wrists and drank acid. But because of this, I think you’ve really gone crazy.”
“You think I’m crazy? So be it! I already caught you, Maisen, and there’s no way to escape. You said you will marry me and that I’m the only—”
I grimaced. “What? I said that? And you believed? Sirri, you’re not the only one I promised marriage to. I told that to all of you. To each one of you who I played and had fun with.”
She pierced her eyes on mine and I could see how furious she already was inside. There were flames in her eyes and sharp stares that could break the glass of my own. If only she was not in front of me, she could have thrown every food on the table, or even the table itself. “How about when you kissed me?” She said, her hand clenched tightly in every sentence. “That was my first kiss.”
“I’m sorry but that wasn't my first kiss. For your infomation, I loved to kiss toys.”
She disdainfuly dropped her utensils on the table and stood irately from her seat. Other people who were in the same restaurant could not avoid removing their gaze from us. “You can never escape, Maisen. We’re getting married. Soon enough, I will be Sirri de la Fuente.”
I indignantly stood from my seat too, pricking Sirri’s deadly stare. If there was one thing I did not like, it was hearing someone use my surname like she owned me and like she was part of my world. She was not even Betty. “There’s someone I love, Sirri. And it’s not you. If I’m going to marry someone, it’s going to be her. She’s the only one who can own me and rule my world like a queen. Just her.”
