Chapter Nineteen

Nightmare of the past and present

Avril, she’ll be fine, right?” My knees were shaking as I bowed down on my seat. We were all outside the emergency room, waiting for someone to come outside and tell that Midori’s all right.

“Yes, of course,” Avril stood and walked here and there, obviously worried.

“Maisen,” I glanced at Midori’s father who calmly called me. “Did you two do anything very tiring? Why did she collapse?”

“No,” I answered waving my hand. “Actually, I brought her to the seashore. We were just talking and I was just explaining things to her. And then it happened. I’m so sorry, Tito.”

“No, it’s not your fault. Just you two,” he pointed to Avril and me “Don’t tell this to Meg. Just leave that to me.”

“I haven’t seen you in this house for millions of years,” he exaggerated.

“I’m staying at our villa in Viewland. And Dad, you have some things to explain to me,” I pertained to what he said about Midori’s sickness.

“Yes, I really have to explain many things to you. I just stood there in silence. I glanced at Avril and his Dad who were both not speaking and were just looking at the closed doors of the emergency room. “Go home now, Maisen.”

“What?” I asked in surprise. “But Dad, I can’t. I’m in a very important situation right now. I can’t leave.”

“Fine. Then just forget about the family. There are very important persons waiting for you and I suppose you won’t disappoint them.”

            “Who ‘they’?” I asked.

“Don’t ask anymore. You should know who. Just go home now if you don’t want to be the downfall of your precious father. Take my command, Mark Isen de la Fuente,” he seriously spoke on the other line. And I knew that I’d dead meat if I did not take his orders right away.

I could not do anything but unshamefully face them and ask, “I’m sorry, but I have to leave now. My father needs me for a very important thing today. I’m just so sorry.” I knew Midori would be fine and she had to. But I had to go to my father first also to clear things to him. This was about Midori too. Still her.

Her father nodded and said  should be careful on my way. Avril stood and said, “I’m sure you’re the first one she’ll find once she wakes up.”

“I will be back. Tell her I will be back. I promise.”

Midori, how are you feeling?”

I sat as I heard Avril’s voice. I still felt weak, but a little bit better than a while ago. I felt my right arm ached as I straightened my seat. “Where’s Maisen?” I weakly asked.

            “He’s—”

“He just got the things that you left on the seashore. He’ll come back for sure,” My Dad held my hand and smoothed his hand on my hair. “How are you feeling?”

I smiled at him. Maisen and I’s conversation was not just a dream. It was real. And why Maisen was not here as soon as I woke up was still because of me. “It’s better than a while ago. But this hurts,” I held my right arm.
