Chapter Five

Sparks on the first meet

There were just things which were hard to explain.

I was just walking, trying to escape my strident world, when someone pulled me. And what thunderstruck me was when she asked me to go on a date with her. At first, I was just silent. I thought she knew who I was that was why she was asking me. I thought she knew that I was the popular Mark Isen de la Fuente. But when she turned her back on me, that was the time that I proved myself wrong. She did not know me. I did not know if I should look at it as an insult or luck when she admitted that, but I just found myself coming after her. I did not know what spirit possessed me when I put my arm on her shoulders and asked her, “Do you know a good place? I know a lot.”

Those eyes. She looked at me with  her oriental eyes which resembles the most beautiful black pearls under the sea. I had gone on a date with women who have ash, green, blue, and hazel ones, and hers was just plainly black, but that was the most special ones I had seen. Hers were like black holes that magnetized me to the core of a place I did not know. A place that I was somewhat afraid to go.

Suddenly, she removed my arm on her shoulders. She was just staring at me and she looked so clueless of the world. She did not look like the girl who asked me on a date just a while ago.

I took steps towards her but she kept inching away from me. That time, I thought she already recognized me, but she still did not. Then, I came to realize one thing. This lady was just finding someone to go on a date with. A first timer, I must say. Someone who did not know how a date would go. Someone who did not know what to do on a date. Someone so clueless of the world but wanted to step out, but still could not.

We were just staring at each other, and I swore I could not last those eyes! They were like tempting me. And I could not just take advantage on someone who seemed to know nothing about the real deal. So I heaved a sigh and told her, “You should have not asked me to go on a date with you if you would just act like that. You know, you are lucky. I am the one you asked. What if it was not me? What if it was some other guy who would take you for their advantage? What would you do? Could you fight back? Pardon me, but you look weak. There are many guys here finding someone to go on a date with. See that man there?” I pointed her the bearded man seated under the tree. That was just an auspicious random pick. “What if he is a snatcher? Or a pedophile? Or someone who would kidnap you and get your intestines? How far could you run? Are you even an athlete? With that lean body? You know, Miss, the world that we have today is unsafe. Everywhere you go, there are bad entities flying everywhere. So don’t let your guard down—” I was about to say more only if I was not enlightened that I was starting to sound like a concerned boyfriend and it was so not right. I just raised her hands into fighting position, just so I could make meaning with my words. But it felt so wrong. When I got a hold of her wrists, I almost did not want to let go of it.  Something inside me wanted to pull her to somewhere to know more about her. Great I was still conscious and I managed to let go of her. “Hmm? Take care!” I said patting her head- one last touch.

I stepped away from her as I shook my head, every shake meant erasing her part-by-part. I snapped myself; I should get back to my senses. I wanted to be myself today, right? I should not be doing my playboy tactics. Not now.

“Woah—” I drew back when someone grabbed my arm. But when I found out that it was her again, I just smiled. And all that I told myself about ‘erasing’ her fell to pieces. I even managed to greet her, “Hey.” It could be a word but at this moment, it meant a paragraph to me.
