Chapter four: The Party

Lindsey's POV

"Is that all you've got, old man?" Jace victorious smile spread across his face as he let the dice fall out of his palm on the round green table in front of us.

"The luck hasn't abandoned me yet, boy," the man's golden tooth showed as he licked his lower his lip as his eyes followed the dice.

The silence occurred around the table for a moment as the noises of other dice and token being dropped in machines filled the air. All mouths were wide opened, eyes focused on dice as they fell on the surface and started to shift positions as they rolled. Three... one... five...

"We have a combination. Mr. Jace won two thousand dollars," the announcer yelled once the dice stopped. The crowd around the table erupted in a cheer as some patted Jace's shoulders and some lifted their glasses of wine, nodding their heads slowly.

"Thank you, thank you," being the modest guy, he put both of his hands in the air and nervously laughed as the crowd clapped their hands around him.

"Don't be so shy," Jessica joked as she hit him lightly on his back. With hurt expression, he turned around to face her, but once he realized she was laughing together with the crowd, he grinned and gave up on a plan to make a mess out of her hair. I just shrugged my shoulders as he looked at me, smiling warmly at the scene.

"Not bad, boy. Not bad," the man who he played against, nodded in recognition and shook hands with Jace.

"It was an honor to play with you, sir," Jace laughed shaking hands with the grey-haired man. I looked as he nervously went through his hair once again, making another mess tonight.

"My brother taught me how to play when I was a kid. But he also taught me when is the right time to pull out of the game. This is it for tonight, gentlemen," he announced as the crowd cheered once again before they returned to watch the rest of the game. Filling his bag with even more tokens, he walked out, waving with his hand to the crowd. Few ladies in the dresses returned the gesture, chuckling under their breaths.

"Until the next time, boy. Maybe I see you one day in Las Vegas," the rival yelled with the following laughter as Jace got lost in the crowd of excited people.

"You wish," Jace provoked.

"Let's change these for cash, shall we?" Jessica suggested as she looked at the tokens in Jace's bag. Her face was barely recognizable as it was hidden behind an enormous white teddy bear which she hugged so tightly like it was a little child. After I hit the target on a carnival this evening and got the huge bear as a reward, I gave it to Jess. Now she wouldn't let go of it.

"Yeah. Let's do this before we end up in a line," he agreed.

"This day was great, don't you think so?" she asked me.

"It truly was. The carnival, the shopping, and the casino, it couldn't get any better, trust me. And what is more important, we were together all day long and had the fun of our life," I replied with a soft smile as I looked at her, lazily standing in front of the wall, her back leaning on it. On my left, I could hear Jace giggling like a child as the cashier exchanged the tokens for money. I spent the whole day with these two idiots, I thought, blankly grinning at the floor. And I was grateful.

"Hey, look there is a party tomorrow night," my thoughts were interrupted as I lifted my gaze just to see Jessica ripping off a pinned poster from a wall and giving it to me. Just by her shiny eyes, almost desperately analyzing my reaction as I took it, gave me a hint that she wanted to go.

"Party next to the beach. Free entry. Loud music. Free cocktails. Hm..." I read out loud, feeling as my sister's tension grew bigger after each word. Reading the last word, I betted she was already standing on her toes, waiting for my opinion.

"Of course, we're going," Jace put his left hand around me as he leaned forwards to Jessica with an evil grin. I could hear Jessica letting out a chuckle as my eyes got closed at the same time Jace placed a soft kiss on my cheek, his lips barely brushing my skin, "And ladies, we are going to dance all night long."
