Chapter sixteen: The Hunt

This was just like a nightmare. Just, this was real and I was trapped inside and there was no way out.

Police weren't coming, nobody could help us survive this nightmare.

We wouldn't make it to the sunrise.

Police would find our dead bodies in the morning, knowing they were too late to save us.

I knew inside that we were going to die, but I would fight until my last breath. I wouldn't give up so easily.

I didn't cry, I didn't scream. I just ran down the dark hallways. Chris and Jess were following me. Killer was hunting us from the shadows. She was quiet, but painful death.

This was a game. This was a hunt.

Welcome to hell!

"Where is that police?" Jess whispered to me. She was crying in silence, not wanting Chris to notice it."I don't want to die here".

"We're not going to die, Jess," I tried to convince myself in that, instead of her.

"I wish that was true," Chris said running and breathing hard, realizing my own thoughts.

We were running up to the second floor. There were so many stairs. This hotel had a lift, but it wasn't in a function anymore. She planned everything and closed all exits available. All rooms were locked and we didn't have any of the keys.

The only sound which filled the dark hallways were our running footsteps.

The third floor, I counted down.

I was getting tired. This hotel was old and cheap, but it had many floors and hallways damn. The irony was that they all looked the same to me.

The fourth floor, I continued running. I pushed my body. I was breathing heavily.

I'm not in shape, I thought.

Chris was leading us now. He could run without any problems unlike us.

"One more floor. What are we going to do? No more stairs," he asked us for advice, giving us a slight glance.

"Get in some room," I yelled as we reached the fifth floor.

Chris nodded in agreement and broke in the nearest room. He almost fell on the floor, but he managed to grab a near table and hold himself from falling. Still, I could see he was hurt. His arm was bleeding from the force he used to break that door which was still in function, despite the broken side with a handle.

"Chris," my sister with worry came to him and took his hand.

"I'm fine," he lied obviously. He literally gasped for air and tried to stop the bleeding.

I locked the door from inside. Good thing I was able to. I wouldn't make the same mistake again. This time she wouldn't be standing behind us.

"Lin, we need to help him. He's bleeding...," Jess cried not managing to stop Chris's bleeding when a loud noise came from the door. We turned our heads, just to fill our eyes with horror.

She was hitting the door with her ax. I froze and analyzed the scene. Fuck, she had an ax and that was really bad for us.

I knew she was going to break the door easily since it was made of weak, almost rotten wood.

"Hope is a useless weapon," the girl smiled at our shocked faces. I gasped when I saw the size of the hole she made in a short time.

"She's going to get in. What are we going to do?" Jess cried as a baby, desperately looking at me.

"Balcony," I said and ran to it.

There was a small balcony in the corner of the room. I opened it without a problem and hot summer wind hit me in the face. It was too high to jump from here. I looked left and saw small fire stairs. Our only chance!

Nobody was on the streets. Perfect, I thought with sarcasm. When we needed people to help us out, nobody was there. The irony of life.

"Here! Hurry," I said to others and started climbing to the roof. I fell to the ground when I reached the rooftop. I couldn't stand anymore, so I just let my body rest a little before standing up again.

My head hurt, my legs hurt and my heart was beating so fast.

"We locked the balcony door, but that wasn't going to stop her," Chris said calmly and his voice scared me from behind. I turned my head to find them standing above me, also heavily breathing.

"Are you okay, Lin?" my sister asked me with worry in hey eyes.

"I'm not okay," that was the true, though."But, I'll make it through."

"The police will be here soon and all of this is going to end," Jess helped me get up from the ground.

"You can run,

 You can even hide,

 I won't chase you,

But I'll wait you," she was singing.

She was happy and smiling like the happiest child ever. She was walking to us, jumping all around like the little girl. The killer looked like a little, happy girl with an axe in her right hand.

I froze, speechless, knowing that I wasn't able to escape. This was it. This was the end!
