My head is still reeling from meeting Ethan. For some reason I can't help but wonder if I'll ever run into him again, maybe I'll have him in one of my classes. It would be nice to see a familiar face around campus.
I let out a deep breath as I pull out the key and unlock my dorm room. My body slightly jerks back when I see another girl standing in front of the desk that is under the bunk bed.
"Hey." I manage to say as I walk further into the room. "I've been eager to meet my roommate." I lightly chuckle.
She turns to look at me with a shy smile. "I just arrived, I'm Jordyn Evans." She timidly extends her hand to reach out to me.
"Taylor," I grab her hand and lightly shake it. "Montgomery. It's really nice to meet you." I exame the awkward girl as she slowly nods her head.
She's wearing a long grey pencil skirt along with a white button up sweater. Her light hair is pulled up into a tight bun and she is wearing glasses. She seems really quiet.
"So, where are you from?" I ask as I move one of my suitcases that contains my art supplies from the floor to my bed. If I'm going to be living with this girl all year, I might as well get to know her.
"I'm from Raleigh." She states as she begins taking out a few on her cardigans to fold. "I got a full scholarship here to study neuroscience. I plan on working in a laboratory to experiment with cell mutation."
"Wow, that's cool." I try not to sound too sarcastic as the words leave my mouth. I have never been interested in science to begin with. "Well, I'm from Wilmington." I say, even though she didn't ask. I take out a few blank canvases and place them in the top draw of the dresser next to my bed. "I'm an art major."
"What form of art?" She awkwardly asks as she stays focused on her folding.
"Um, all of it." I shrug as I look down at a package of colored pencils in my bag. "I draw, paint, sculpt, all of that stuff."
"Oh." Is all she murmurs.
I sigh to myself as I take out my makeup bag and place it on a large rack my mother bought for me. "Uh, you can put some of your makeup on here too if you want." I politely tell her.
"I don't wear makeup." She simply states as she continues to unpack what seems to be one suitcase.
I nod slowly and decide to stay quiet for the next half hour while I unpack all of my clothes and art supplies. Between paint brushes, pens, pencils, palettes and a few other items I make sure everything is placed properly in my draws.
Once that is all complete, I hang up a bunch of pictures of my friends and family along with some of my own original paintings. It makes my side of the room look vibrant and lively, unlike Jordyn's. She never put up anything on her wall, making it resemble a jail cell.
The only thing she has on her desk is textbooks. I take my room key and slide it into the pocket of my shorts. I turn to look at Jordyn sitting at her desk.
"I'm gonna go check out the campus and then get dinner at the dining hall." I inform her.
"Okay." She doesn't take her eyes off of the textbook. I don't know what she is studying for, classes don't start for another few days.
I make my way out of my room and shut the door behind me. It feels good to get out of that extremely uncomfortable atmosphere. I'm just hoping she opens up more within the next few weeks. I exit my building and begin to explore the crowded campus.
There are about fifteen different buildings and I wanted to know where everything is before I start my classes. I didn't get a chance to tour the campus during orientation, most of my time was spent watching informational videos about the college in the auditorium and getting my dorm setup. I immediately begin looking for where the art rooms are located, I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of my time there instead of my dorm.
