I stare out the window of my dorm room, watching the heavy rain hit the turf of the football field. My sketchbook is placed in front of me with a blank page waiting to be filled with a new creative idea. One of the few sweatshirts Grayson owns is keeping my body warm on this gloomy day.
The door lightly creaks open as I turn around to see my boyfriend slip into the room. He's wearing grey sweatpants and a black long sleeve shirt. I can tell his wardrobe is changing lately. Water droplets fall from his hair to his shirt, everything is soaked.
"I told you to wear a hoodie." I sigh as he walks over to me, kissing the top of my head.
"I should have listened, it's downpouring. It hasn't rained this hard in months." Grayson places a brown paper bag in front of me before sitting down on my bed.
"It's supposed to be like this all day." I open the bag and pull out a plain bagel, dropping the packets of butter and a plastic knife on the desk.
"Good thing my class got cancelled, now we can stay cuddled up all afternoon." He pulls up the chair from Jordyn's old desk and brings it next to me.
"I love the sound of that." I smile as I slide his everything bagel over to him. I start to spread butter over my food as he takes a sip from his water bottle.
"Did you hear anything about the art contest? I know it was only yesterday, I'm just eager to find out the results." He asks with an anxious grin.
"No, it's too early to tell anything." I shrug as I take a bite of my bagel.
"I hope they contact you soon." Grayson nods as he looks down at his food.
"I'm sure by next week I'll hear something." I lean over to take a sip from his water bottle.
Grayson looks down at my blank sketchbook. "What are you drawing now?"
"I don't know." I lightly chuckle as I continue to eat my food. "Got any ideas?"
"Let me think." He stares at the page, clearly deep in thought. "Draw a bird."
"A bird?" I laugh as I look at him next to me.
"Yeah, what's your favorite bird?" He flashes me a giddy smile.
"Probably a cardinal." I never really thought about what my favorite bird is, until now. Sometimes Grayson does that to me. He makes me think of things I would never normally think of.
"So draw that." He shrugs as he takes another large bite of his food.
"Okay, but only cause you thought of it." I smirk as I pick up my pencil.
He smiles lightly as he looks out the window. Rain droplets are sliding down, racing each other to get to the end. Grayson lets out a comfortable breath as he keeps his eyes on the outdoors. "I always loved rainy days."
"Really? Why?" I ask as I keep my eyes on my sketchbook.
"It was always so calming to me. I used to sit outside as a kid in the pouring rain." He reminisces with a small grin.
"Oh, so you were that weirdo." I joke as he playfully hits my arm.
"Who gave you permission to wear my sweatshirt, princess?" He bites his lower lip as he leans closer to me.
"I did." I smirk as I look back at him. "It looks better on me anyway."
"I'll agree to that." His face is so close to mine. His eyes pierce into my soul as butterflies flutter around in my stomach. Grayson still makes me nervous, he still makes my heart flutter with one single glance.
