Standing with you (Kai)

It was one of the worst days of my life... They say that you'll never forget they day you meet your partner's parents... and now I can see why. Everybody told me they were really nice, Kai wasn't even worried, but I had my doubts. Things never go that easily. That day I wore very nice clothes, a beautiful black dress, really simple but formal. I decided I wanted to look very tidy so I did my hair differently, just simple straight hair but I didn't take my piercings off because they were like my luck charms and I also didn't want to be someone else just for them, but I really tried to look good.

I liked being myself, there was nothing wrong with that and I was not ashamed. But people can be hard and judge you before hearing your story. Kai wasn't like that, he was nice and never let his first impressions control him. He was nice since the first moment we met and and never stopped being like that. He loved me for who I was, he didn't care for anything else, his love was everything and he always reminded me how proud he was of me.

We went to his parent's house to have dinner, it was a very beautiful place. It seemed like a fairy tale where you can feel the warmth of a home and the happiness of the family. But when they saw me I knew things were going to be rough. They weren't disrespectful, they greeted me very nicely and were polite all the evening but I could see it in their eyes, the were judging the stranger who was sitting next to their son.

They tried to ignore me all the time we were there, they didn't even look at me in the eyes, I was a nobody in there. I wanted to leave but I decided I would stay and try harder, for Kai. But he was also feeling uncomfortable. He saw the same I did in their eyes, so right after dinner he stood up and told them we had to go early "because he had some important work very early in the morning". We didn't even eat the brownies that were waiting for us in the coffee table. He opened the car's door for me and when I got inside he turned to his parents and said "I'm so ashamed of you two. I didn't think you could treat someone like that just because of the first impression she gave." He turned to see his mother and then his father

"They have meaning, if your were wondering. She has those piercings because of a reason, you can't even imagine what it is... it's hard, she fought really hard and here you are thinking you can treat her like she was nothing." He went to his side of the car and before and before he got in he said "She is my girlfriend and I love her. She is perfect and the most honest person I've met. She makes your son happy. Next time you call I hope it's for apologizing" He got in the car, took my hand and drove me silently home.

I held my tears until we arrived home. I went inside without even turning the lights on and just when I was going upstairs he stopped me and hugged me from behind. "I'm sorry... I can't believe they were like that..." I started to cry uncontrollably while he hugged me. He didn't say anything for a while and I thanked him for that. I needed the silence of the night but also his company. We sat on the stairs while I let everything out. I felt terribly, I tried to much to make them like me but it was for nothing. They didn't understood me, they didn't even try. He stood there hugging me until I calmed a little.

"Y/N... I know it was horrible.. I also feel like crying. You are my girl and I can let anyone treat you like that. I'm sorry you went through that because of me" I turned to see him and he kissed my forehead. "Kai.." I started to sob again. "Shh... let me finish. Y/N... I'm here for you, I'll support you and make every person that hurt you go away. Even if it's about my parents. They were rude for no reason and I can't let that happen again. I love you and nothing will change that" He kissed my lips softly and looked me in the eyes.

"We are starting a life together. We are together in this and I won't leave you no matter what. You are the only girl I've ever loved and the only girl I'll love in all my life. You are the girl that gives me life"

And that's when I knew I finally found my home. Not a house, not a special place, but in Kai. He always stands by my side. He is the boy I always needed even if I wasn't aware of it. "I'm going to make you proud Kai... I love you and I want to be part of your family... I'll try my best. I won't give up" He smiled and pulled me close. "I'm already proud, you silly. You are unbreakable"
