"Do you think you'll have this by the end of the year?" You asked Jongin as he his eyes stared at you and then to the pencil in his hands and then back to you. "I think so? Why are you giving me a pencil though? I just asked you to-" "Shh... If you have it by the end of the year... then you can ask me again, so I know you really mean it"
Why had you done that back then? You didn't know, he didn't know. It had puzzled Jongin not just the rest of that week, but the whole year. You thought of that night every now and then and wondered if he still had it. Maybe it was a little too much.. you thought as the darkness of the night covered your room. Maybe I lost my chance the moment I told him to wait...
He had asked you out and indirectly you told him to wait, you even risked to lose his heart over a pencil. It was an act you didn't plan or thought, just said it the moment he confessed. You were scared, scared it was a joke or something. To be fair it did seem like a joke at the beginning, after all you two were best friends and always joked around about those things.
But this time it wasn't a joke, he did actually mean it, he indeed felt something for you. Or feels, maybe he still does, you can't possibly know. Not yet, the year is not over until tomorrow.
Your friendship didn't change after that. He continued to be the same Nini you knew, he continued being there for you and so did you. It felt awkward at the beginning, but he always made it easy. Just one glare, just one smile and it was more than enough for you to forget about the whole world. You loved him, but you were scared to being loved.
And so the year passed, the year passed without you knowing if he still had the pencil, if he even remembered at all. A year passed while you waited for him to give him a sign. But you clearly said it, you wouldn't accept unless he showed it to you at the end of the year. So all you could during that year was wait, wait and watch him in silence.
But what you didn't know is that he also watched you, he also wondered if you remembered your promise, if the pencil had any meaning to you. He wonered at night what would happened if he were to confess again before the year was over; honestly, the wait was killing him. But he said nothing nor he did anything, he just waited and wished for you to remember, because that night he had meant it, all his feelings for you were more than real.
It was almost midnight, you could start hearing the fireworks outside. Everyone was celebrating, couples were already kissing, friends were cheering and drinking, taking pictures and hugging each other. Everyone seemed to having the time of their except for you. Your eyes wandered around the room, looking for that cheeky smile you loved. But you couldn't find him, he was nowhere to be found. Maybe he had forgotten... maybe he had found someone else. But just before the last minute of the year finished, you felt how an arm slowly surrounded your waist pulling you close to... to him. "Did you think I would forget?" Kai whispered in your ear, holding the used pencil almost down to the nub, in front of your eyes. "Did you think I wouldn't come to claim my prize?"
He didn't wait for your answer, there was no time left. The year was finally over, or it was finally beginning and he wanted his last and first action to be a kiss. A kiss for the girl he loved the most. And so, you passed from a lonely girl to the most loved one in just one second. As the bell rang, as the people yelled "Happy New Year", your and Kai's lips melted together, just as your hearts and souls became one. He had meant it, he waited for me.
"It's not just me liking you Y/N... I love you and I hope you know. Happy new years, my love"
