"Nini?" You stopped by his bedroom door, knocked gently a few times before calling his name again. "Jongin... what's going on? Everyone's so worried" "Please leave me alone" You heard his voice coming from inside, or barely heard. It was more of a soft than a sound. "No Nini, you know I won't go until you open this door... so please"
But you knew he wasn't going to open the door anytime soon. You rested your back against the door and slid down, sitting on the floor. "Any progress?" Junmyeon stood in front of you. "If we are lucky, he's reconsidering opening the door right now. But you know... we can't push him too much, he needs time" "Or we could break the door..." Chanyeol said after you. You rolled your eyes and faked a kick. "Go, you two. He won't open the door if he hears too many people out here. So go!"
It always broke your heart when you saw him crying. There was nothing worse than him opening that door and seeing those puffy red eyes from crying. But ignoring how much it hurt you, you threw yourself into his arms and held him tightly, closing the door behind you. "Nini..." "I don't want to talk about it..." He immediately said. You smiled, it was like you two had rehearsed it. It was always the same. He locking himself inside his room, worrying everyone so much to the point they had to call you, his best friend and then you going to convincing him to open the door for you, waiting a few minutes or maybe hours for him to do it, then seeing him broken, breaking you and hugging him tightly until he couldn't breathe. "I know I know, it's too much for you. You'll be alright in a few days. It's just a grey day" You rolled your eyes at him. "I'm tired of hearing the same things every time... Nini I think we have to talk about this, this time I mean" "But.." "No buts" You stopped the embrace and lead him to his bed. "Sit down" You ordered with your hands on your waist. "Listen Nini, I love you. You are my best friend and I respect you and your feelings. But there's a limit to how much I can handle seeing you hurting. I feel useless when this happens... and it's been happening more often so of course I'm worried and not to mention your dorky friends outside that are also worried sick" He smiled gently as he heard your the words coming from your mouth even though his smile didn't reach his eyes. "Say something!" "Fine... fine" He sighed and leaned backwards, letting his weight fall on the bed. "I just... I feel cold you know?" You surely didn't understand what he was saying but let him continue. "I just... I feel like my life is empty..." You sighed as you laid down next to him. "What makes you feel like that Nini?" You whispered, turning your face to him. "You..." You had never felt the pain you felt in your heart at the sound of those three letters. That was something you were definitely not expecting, it had taken you aback.
So you let the silence grow, let the sad atmosphere grow even more. But you couldn't bring yourself to say something, so Jongin did it instead. "I see you smile and I wish I were the reason behind it. I see you laugh and I wish I was the one making you laugh. I see you cry and I wish I could be the one to lick your wounds and heal them. I see you and I wish I could tell you how I really feel... but how can I? When we are just friends?" "Nini... Nini I think you got it wrong" You got up and looked at him. "All this time you've been hurting because you couldn't tell me how you felt? Because you were afraid it would affect our friendship?" He nodded and looked away, a little ashamed. "No Nini... friend or more... I've always told you to tell me what's in your heart. To trust me... but I can't blame you" You sighed and watched him as his eyes met your again. "Y-you don't?" "How could I Nini? If all this time I've been feeling the same and I haven't said anything about it either..." He opened his eyes widely and sat again, getting really close to your face. "What did you just say?" "I think you heard be pretty well" You whispered. "If I had known my silence was the reason of this... I would have told you sooner..." But he wasn't listening anymore. You could see the sparkles of life in his eyes that were back. You saw how his eyes scanned every inch of your face, how he savoured every second of that moment. "Nini... say something" "Let's stop pretending. Let's stop hiding. Let's hold hands and start walking together from now on..." You nodded and threw yourself into his arms again, making you two fall on the bed. "Don't ever hide things from me again, okay?" "Only if you promise me to stay here with me... forever" "I do Nini, I do"
