CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT: "Goodbyes"

Pagbukas ng mga mata ko ang una kong nakita is my mom holding my hands. Her eyes were so red due to crying.

“Mom? Where am I?” I asked her.

“You’re in a hospital anak. You were operated awhile ago due to appendicitis.” She said.

Naoperahan pala ako? What happened to Iñaki? I have to go to him.

I was about to sit up when my mom stopped me. “Hindi ka pa pwedeng tumayo anak kakalabas mo pa lang ng operating room.”

“Pero Ma I need to see Iñaki hinihintay nya ako sa school.” I said. I saw the clock inside my room and it was already 4 in the afternoon. Pinilit kong umupo even if my mom was stopping me.

“Lyka anak magpahinga ka na muna.” She pleaded.

“No! I have to see him. Malamang kanina pa nya ako hinihintay Mommy.” I exclaimed. I stand up and I slowly walk towards the door causing my dextrose to fall. My mom stops me. “Let go Mommy!” I shouted.

          Suddenly my dad together with some nurses went inside the room. One of the nurses injected something in me and after that I loss consciousness once again.

          The next time I woke up Monica’s face greeted me. Medyo groggy pa ako and I don’t know why. Did they sedate me or something?

“BFF, loka loka ka talaga.” Monica said to me with a faint smile.

“Nasaan si Mommy and Daddy?” I ask.

“Umuwi sandali to get some of your clothes ako muna magbabantay sayo ngayon.” Monica said.

          I look at the clock and I saw that it was already 7 o’clock. It should be evening pero bakit maliwanag sa labas? Bigla akong kinabahan. Posible kayang I slept the whole day kahapon?

Hinawakan ko sa kamay si Monica. “Tell me! Ilang oras akong nakatulog? Saturday pa rin diba?” I frantically asks her.

“Sunday na girl.” Monica said to me. “Pinatulog ka nila ng matagal kahapon upon your mom’s request because naghi-hysterical ka. Complicated yung operation na ginawa sayo because your appendix ruptured.”

          If it is already Sunday then what happened to Iñaki? If I wasn’t able to go to him kahapon that means he thought that I haven’t forgiven him yet.

“Si Iñaki?” I ask Monica. Hindi sya agad sumagot at alam kong may itinatago sya sa akin.

“Nasaan si Iñaki?” I ask once again. “Answer me Monica!” I shouted.

“I heard he is leaving today dahil sa States na daw sya mag-aaral. Hindi ko din alam kung bakit biglaan na lang syang aalis.” Monica said in a sad voice.

          Alam ko kung bakit sya aalis and it was because of me. Akala nya hindi ko pa sya napapatawad dahil hindi ko nakapunta kahapon. I have to stop him from leaving.

“Monica kailangan mo akong tulungang makalabas dito? I need to stop Iñaki from leaving.” I said.

“Nababaliw ka na ba? Hindi pa completely nagwewear-off yung gamot na binigay nila sayo. Hindi ka pwedeng umalis Lyka.” Monica exclaimed.

“Hindi mo ako naiintidihan Monica. Kailangan kong kausapin si Iñaki.” I said to her while trying to sit up pero pinipigilan nya ako.

“If hindi ka pa titigil BFF sasabihin ko sa nurse na naghi-hysterical ka na naman and they will not hesitate to give you another shot!” Monica shouted.

          Napahinto ako. Kung papatulugin na naman nila ako hindi ko mapupuntahan si Iñaki. I have to think of another plan.

“Okay fine.” I said to Monica and then I just closed my eyes.
