"Im so sorry"

"Ava!" Grayson yells from outside my door. I knock on the wooden desk right next to my bed. That's the sign they can come in. Grayson opens my door and sits on the end of my bed, closest to the door. "Wanna go to Cedar Point?" He asks me. My eyes widen with excitement. I nod and get up.

"When?" I sign. He checks his phone for the time and looks back at me.

"Around 1? It's 10:20am now" he tells me. I nod

"Who's going?" I sign.

"Uhm, me, you, and Xavier" He tells me. "But we're going out to lunch first at like 11 so hurry up and get dressed"

"Well you have to leave!" I sign. He smiles and gets up, and leaves the room. I go to my closet and pick a tight white crop top and a pair of high waisted skinny jeans with a bunch of rips and holes in it. I go to the bathroom and just leave my hair the way it is; curly. I put on some concealer, mascara, and nude lipstick.

"AVA!" Xavier yells "WE'RE GOING TO LEAVE WITHOUT YOU!" I quickly exit my room and meet them by the front door.

"Finally" Grayson breathes

"Shut up! I'm a girl, girls take longer!" I sign. They laugh and Xavier opens the door.

"Ladies first" He tells Grayson

"Aw, fuck you" Grayson responds but walks through the doorway anyway. He smiles at me and I walk through the doorway.
We get to the restaurant and walk in.

"Hello, what can I help you with?" The waiter asks. I've asked Grayson to order for me in advance so I don't have to try to talk to people.

"Uhm, well she will have, the Uhm cheese burger with fries, just ketchup, mustard, and lettuce on the burger" Grayson says

"I mean shouldn't she order for herself?" The waiter mumbles

"Excuse me?" Grayson barks

"I'm gonna bet you heard me" he says, setting down the menu he's holding on the table

"Guys" Xavier warns

"Hon, what would you like?" The waiter asks me. I point to Grayson so he knows I want what Grayson just told him.

"You can have whatever you want. You don't have to listen to him"

"Oh my God" Grayson groans.

"She told him what she wants before we got here. She's mute so she was trying to make it easier on you" Xavier explains.

"You expect me to believe that?" The waiter scoffs. I hit the table to get his attention.

"Can I get a cheeseburger with fries? Lettuce, mustard, and ketchup on the burger" I sign. His eyes go wide and he walks back to the kitchen.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause problems" I sign.

"Don't apologize. It wasn't your fault" Grayson says. A few minutes later the waiter comes back out with our food and doesn't say a single word before he leaves. He looked so embarrassed.

We pull up to a gas station so Xavier can get us some drinks. Grayson and I tell him what we want and stay in the car.

"I have something to ask you" Grayson says in a serious voice.

"What's up?" I ask nervously.

"Do you have a thing for Cason?! When are you getting together!? Have you been able to get ahold of him so you can talk about the kiss!?" He asks with a huge smile.

"I don't know. No, we aren't becoming a thing and no, I haven't talked to him"

"What do you mean 'I don't know'?"

"The only person I've ever been with is my dad, Aiden, and Landon. I don't really know what it feels like to actually have feelings for someone"

"Can you sign that again? I thought you said dad" he chuckles to himself. Shit.

"You didn't read it wrong"

"What!? You're dad......did stuff to you?"

"Yeah. It got worse after my mom died. That's why I had to go to the hospital a few weeks ago"

"I'm so sorry. About your dad and your mom. I know the pain of losing your mother"

"You do? Can I ask what happened?"

"My mom was teaching me how to drive. A deer jumped out in front of the car and I got scared so I swerved....into a ditch. My mother died immediately. My little sister was sitting in the backseat and she had found a way to unbuckle her seat belt so she could grab a toy. She flew through the windshield and was in a coma for 3 years. I had to sell my house to afford her life support. I didn't have any money and I knew she was never gonna wake up so I had to give the order to the pull the plug"

"I am so sorry, Grayson"

"Thanks. It was awhile ago though"

"My dad murdered my mom in front of me just for the hell of it I guess. It's been 7 years and sometimes the pain is worse than the day it happened"

"I thought the further away I got from it the less it would hurt"

"Me too"

Xavier gets in the car and freezes when he sees our faces.

"What? Did I do something?" He asks. We turn around and Grayson drives off.
