Ava
Four years later
I look in the mirror and I almost don't recognize who is looking back at me. I've changed so much over the years. Bentley is 4 now. He has beautiful brown hair and brown eyes, he has two dimples and many, many freckles. He's the love of my life. And today, I'm marrying the other love of my life. I smile at the powerful, beautiful girl looking back at me.
"You look gorgeous" Cassidy tells me. She's my maid of honor. I have 4 bridesmaids, Maeve, Delilah, Emory, and Lilly. Greyson is Cason's Best man. His groomsmen are Bowen, Oskar, Tyson, and Xavier. Rennen is our flower girl and Bentley is our ring bearer.
"She's right" Maeve says
"Thank you" I say, eyes tearing up
"Don't cry! It'll ruin your makeup!" Emory exclaims, dabbing at my eyes with a tissue.
"Yeah! We worked really hard on it"
"I'm sorry" I say and look at the girls "thank you. For everything you've done for me"
"You're welcome" Lilly says and puts the veil over my face "now, go out there and get married!" Mae and Lilah open the door and I look at the other set of doors, the ones that lead to the rest of my life.
Cason
I stand in front of everyone, waiting for my beautiful bride to be walk through those doors. They open and 'here comes the bride' starts to play. The bridesmaids walk out first. My heart skips a beat when when I see Ava. She's in a gorgeous silk dress with lace on the sleeves. Greyson nudges me.
"Wow" he whispers
"I know" I watch as she walks down the aisle with her dad. They get to the end of the aisle and Joe sits down after kissing her on the cheek. She steps up to where I am and I lift the veil up, placing it behind her head, so I can see her beautiful face. Her makeup is absolutely perfect, not a single flaw. Her lipstick making her lips look even more plump and delicious than before.
"Friends, we have joined here today to share with Ava Lee and Cason Dodge an important moment in their lives. Their time together, they have seen their love and understanding of each other grow and blossom and now they have decided to live out the rest of their lives as one" the minister speaks "You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks—all those sentences that began with "When we're married" and continued with "I will and you will and we will"—those late night talks that included "someday" and "somehow" and "maybe"—and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, "You know all those things we've promised and hoped and dreamed—well, I meant it all, every word." Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another—acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this—is my husband, this—is my wife" she smiles at us "You May Now say your vows" I nod and get out a piece of paper "Ava. When we met, I didn't think I wanted kids, hell, I didn't even think I wanted to get married. Now I couldn't imagine my life without you. You've changed me, for the best. I promise to be the man that I see now in your eyes, today, tomorrow, and for always" I tell her. She starts tearing up "Baby, don't cry. You'll mess up your amazing makeup" she sniffles and nods.
"My turn, right?" She asks, the minister nods and she pulls out a napkin but puts it back and looks into the people watching her "Okay. Here it goes. Cason. You had my heart in your hand from the moment I saw you. Most people say that their partner saved them. You actually did. You had my trust since we started talking. Even if I didn't like it. I didn't even know what Love is before you. I love you so much" she states.
"I love you too" I tell her
"Now, can the ring bearer give us the rings?" The minister ask me and Ava both look out to see our four year old son walking ever so slowly trying not to drop the rings.
"Hi mommy! You look pretty!" Ben yells from the other side of the aisle.
"Thank you baby, can you hurry up?" She chuckles. He nods and walks faster. We get the rings.
"Now, Cason, repeat after me; 'I Cason Dodge'" she hands me the ring "and place this on her fingertip
"I, Cason Dodge," I say sliding the ring on her fingertip
"Give you, Ava Lee, this ring as an eternal symbol of my love and commitment to you" the minister continues "and slide it the rest of the way"
"Give you Ava Lee, this ring as an eternal symbol of my love and commitment to you" I say and slide the ring down her finger.
"Now, you do the same" she says handing the ring to Ava. Ava puts the ring on the tip of my ring finger
"I, Ava Lee, Give you, Cason Dodge, this ring as an eternal symbol of my love and commitment to you" and she slides the ring down the rest of my finger.
"By the power vested in me, by the state of Arkansas, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride" I kiss Ava and everyone cheers "I present you Mr. And Mrs. Dodge"
