Everything was finally falling into place.
I had a new apartment in a new city, a new job that I was starting today and a completely new start overall.
I jumped out of bed, hopped into the shower and got dressed for my first day at my new job.
I was going to work at a company owned by one the wealthiest men in London..
Sam Black.
Why?
Because I needed the money. I made peanuts in my last job and it wasn't enough to cover all my bills and my rent.
Okay, Ellie. It's just a job; Not a murder trial.
I dressed in what I would call smart / casual attire, hoping it would be appropriate enough. But having worked at a law firm previously, you'd think I'd know what was appropriate.
"8.30! Crap, I'm going to be late."
I grabbed my bag as I ran out my apartment, locking my door behind me, said hello to my neighbor in the hallway, ran downstairs to the entrance hall, out the door, across the street into the car park, found my car (once I remember where abouts I'd parked it), jumped in and headed to my new job.
I had nerves in the pit of my stomach. I don't know what I was worried about. I got the job, but that doesn't mean I still wasn't nervous about it. But the way my interview went 2 weeks ago.. Lets just say it's probably a good explanation for the nerves I was feeling.
...
2 weeks previous:
"Your CV is.. Excellent. The best I've ever seen"
I blushed a little at his comment.
Why?
I haven't got a clue.
"T-thank you, Mr Black." I stuttered, my nerves beginning to take over me.
Dammit.. Pull yourself together!
Mr Black. The owner of the law firm I was applying for a job at. It was undeniable that he was incredibly good looking, but there was something about him that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
"Your qualifications are exceptional, and just what we're looking for."
I couldn't help but blush again.
Got dammit! Get a grip, Ellie.
"Thank you. I hope you'll consider me as a potential employee for your company."
"Oh, don't worry, you'll be at the top of my list."
The top of his list?
As he rose up from his desk chair, I felt my heart rate increase. I don't know the guy, but somehow he's managing to make my heart want to jump out of my chest.
"I just have a few more questions to ask you." He said, perching on the very edge of his desk, folding his arms.
"O-kay."
What else could he possibly want to ask me?
"How good are you at dealing with complicated situations?"
The last law firm I worked at was.. Intense. I saw and heard some pretty bad things, but somehow I managed to keep everything under control.
"I'd say I'm pretty good at dealing with complicated situations."
